O/T--Question about wedding attire

I need your opinions please. I am going to a Saturday evening wedding in two weeks. I will be wearing a long ankle length pleated silky chocolate skirt. My question is, is it appropriate to wear a cream colored jacket/blouse? The reason I ask is because some say that you should never wear cream or white to a wedding since it competes with the bride. TIA! I'll check your responses tomorrow morning!
