O/T Need computer advise.....

After hours of research I finally got a new laptop, an HP quad core Dv6 for and astonishing low price at Staples online after a couple of coupons, a rebate and of course my mrrebates money the cost was about $440. I think it retails for somewhere close to $899. So happy with that and I LOVE MY NEW COMPUTER. Anyway, I had been using Firefox on my last computer and liked it. This one of course was loaded with Internet Explorer. Is it still thought that Firefox is safer than IE?? Just wondering what all the super smart computer gals are doing?? Anything else you would recommend for my new baby???
