I lived in Germany and I loved it, but it's hard to understand the nuances of their legal system and you really have to understand many things. There are occupancy permits, residency permits, fire regulations, tax regulations....but we loved living there.
I think I might go to South America--Chile or Uruguay. I don't speak Spanish as fluently as I do German or French, but I could probably learn it pretty well. The people are great and the countries are beautiful. I have relatives in Brazil but Brazil and Argentina are not economically as stable.
Or I'd go to France. Somewhere in Alsace, or Franche-Compte, a village but in driving distance to a train or a highway to get to civilisation.

I'd consider British Columbia, New Zealand, Australia; then maybe Italy, England, Ireland, Scotland.

England or Scotland and if I had the money, London.

On 7/1/2014 3star said: Australia for sure. Unemployment is almost non existent and the minimum wage is $28.00 per hour. A happy economy makes for happy residents.
Actually the current minimum wage is $16.87 (AUD) per hour. But, the cost of living in Australia is VERY high. Gas prices are 50 percent higher than in the U.S. When I ordered tacos at a Mexican food court fast food place I was expecting something pretty spectacular for 2 tacos for $10, but they were just a couple small corn tortillas with a small amount of filling, no side of rice or beans...I could have easily eaten three more, and I'm not a very big person.
I looked at lots of restaurant menus during my daily walks and every one was unbelievably expensive for the amount of food served.

Canada, specifically Ontario. I just love it there.

Awesome answers by all...wackers I cannot believe the temp range and the amt of snow you've had to put up with - God love ya!!!
Singapore was interesting to read about as were some other places. Switzerland having no strays and a gun in every house was good to hear but it's a tad cold for me. I need more warmth in my life these days.
Sunshine and warmth keep me happy!!!
