O/T Help Short Term Disability

I need some advice. I have been out on STD for about 3 weeks now. Because of a mixup with what to do with a document my doctor has it. It is for the release of my medical records. They told me the copier is there on Wed and they will be sent. Are you kidding me. Then I get a fedex letter from work stating if they dont have it I have to return to work on monday.I have another appointment tomorrow and will not leave until they are faxed.I wont even get my results until tomorrow so I will just be starting meds and am in no shape to go back. Anyone experienced something similar.

Well, I am not an expert, however, i do not liketo see a post with over a hundred views and no reply, I think it is rude.

Your Dr has the final say, give them a verbal heads up about your situation but don't be demanding because you need for them to help you and to cooperate. Explain to your employer whats going on. What was he going to say on Wed is what is important, was he going to say you are not ready to return, if thats the case you shouldnt be worried. Maybe the Dr's office can call your job and explain. keep calm.

Tell your Dr office they are going to stop your $ if this isn't done. You cannot wait. You can't tell me someone there can't do this for you. Tell the Dr, he will make sure someone does it for you. Call the office and ask to speak to the office manager or the administrator of the practice. They will make sure you are a happy "customer". Don't fall for that it has to wait till the copier comes in…really? No one can copy records? Be nice, but get your point across. Drs don't want to lose a patient waiting for a copier!!

I have found, over the years, that some HR departments are just mean-spirited. I worked for one place that demanded fax verification of a dental appointment, just so a person could take unpaid time off............

OP, would the employer terminate employment if info not received? I may be reading through the lines here, but sounds like that could happen. No excuse for not having a copier at any office....maybe they have a part timer who comes in on a day for such tasks. Get what you need today!

If an em[ployee is going to be off long enough to need STD they should have applied for a family medical leave - the law says they have to give you this time off and can't force you to return to work for the entire 12 weeks as long as your doctor says you need to be off. I suspect there is more to this story.

Re: O/T Help Short Term Disability

At my former workplace, a note on the doctor's prescription pad saying I was under his/her care until blank time was sufficient for short term disability. With my knee surgery, I did not bother to apply for FMLA due to having several years worth of sick time hours that covered my 3 months of time off.

Yes I have to get my records today. The problems are they arent going to approve std unless they have those records. The doc has no say in it if std isnt approved yet. I alredy didnt get pid last week.

All you need is a note from your Dr. stating you can't return to work and estimated time of return and next appointment date. Your employer can't ask about the reason you are off. (HIPA law) The medical record is for your insurance and not your employer. It has nothing to do with your return to work date, it's so you will be paid. Hope this helps.

Thousands of businesses are not covered by the FMLA. Perhaps the OP works for such a company?
