I put O/T so anyone who has an issue with this on the Beauty Board is forewarned. I just feel comfortable posting here since this is where I "hang out".

We are about to enter phase 2 of my husband's treatment for Amyloidosis. It is a rare blood disease... like cancer and treated like myeloma, even though it is not technically cancer. The bone marrow makes protein...amyloids and they attack the organs. Anyway, we got through the first phase of chemo which was horrible. BUT..it put him in remission (knock wood). Now we are entering the second part...the transplant part. So this Fri, he enters Sloan to get the shots to stimulate the bone marrow to make cells that they will collect and store. The side effects of the shot are scary and the whole recycling of the blood is , well scary too. He will be in the hospital for about a week. After that he gets some rest....don't know how long. Then he goes back into the hospital for about 4 weeks while he gets the transplant. It's the same place Robin Roberts (ABC) went, only she had to get the bone marrow from her sister.They are using my husbands own cells that they store so the body won't reject them. I think you all get the picture. He had to be hospitalized during the chemo since he got dehydrated and he also had a horrible rash. This week are some tests and Friday we start to collect. The whole thing is just daunting. Ironically, he got let go from his job of 30 years (new management...nepotism..etc), right before he was diagnosed so the stress is off the charts. I just needed to vent because I am in such a state of, well I don't even know. Thanks for letting me talk.

By the way he turned 60 in Sept... just around when he was diagnosed.
