O/T -- Calling All Seamstresses/Sewing Experts for Side Seam Help

Please help!!

How would I adjust a side seam -- taking it in (over the hip area) on each side 1/2 " -- on the T-shirt dress from IM. The seam in place is an overlock stitch. If I stitch a new seam, how would I make the excess lay to the back? After I make the new seam, should I just tack it so that it lays to the back?

Or, should I open the existing seam, sew my new seam and then finish off?
