Hi, gal--I have NO experience with AA hair, but I did run into a curly hair blog the other night. I imagine it is one of many. Actually, I have to perm my curls in!!!

I have no experience with that, aside from Chris Rock's Good Hair, but my wavy/curly hair and I spend a lot of time on both Naturallycurly dot com and CurlyNikki dot com. (They're all part of the same media company run by and for curly girls.) Naturally Curly has a forums section called Curl Talk, and I suggest you ask there - they have women of all hair types and textures and you should get some good advice from people who know what's up with the kitchen. CurlyNikki has no forum section, but there are comments on the blog posts. Nikki is a woman of color and specializes in kinky and coily hair types. I get a lot of good information from both sites. They're generally about wearing hair naturally curly, but I'm sure you could also get information about straightening hair.
I hope that helps.

Have you considered getting a flattering haircut and letting your hair go natural? I have curly hair and gave up on trying to straighten it when I was 16. I was so neurotic that once I'd kind of straightened it, I would put it all under a hat when the air was humid so that it wouldn't blow up again. I think people should work with the hair they have because it is easier and less stress on the hair. However, I knew someone for 20 years and thought she had straight hair. It turns out she'd straighten it every morning. I NEVER saw her hair with a curl in it. Wow! That's dedication.

The creator is AA but they work for most people. I am non-AA, have curly blonde hair and I use her products. They're excellent for frizz problems.

I'm sure you meant to be helpful but I'm over sixty years old and have been from pigtails to pressed hair when Mom did it to Afro through sixties and seventies, permed hair for the profession I chose for over 20 years. two years ago, sick of it all, even though I can finally afford the best brands , I cut all the permed hair off. ALL of it. But I had to go 20 years back in time and farther to first remember what worked, the disasters, the processes. I remembered what Mom did and began anew with my chemical free hair. What I do know I know with certainty. Pure , filtered, decontaminated natural shea butter, cocoa butter, argan oil, jojoba oil. Vinegar rinses after a real shampoo. twisting, braiding, flat ironing, hot combing/curling. Thank you for mentioning Carol's Daughter I think she altered her original products to suit a larger consumer base. What I need is not there anymore. Thank you all for reading and responding. I do so wish we could have empathy for each one's journey, consideration for each life's experiences. Perhaps someday? ps------ My natural hair is down to between my shoulder blades when braided not. WEN i think is a part of the process but the old ways are THE answer.

Have you tried Mixed Chicks? I know a few people (men & women) that have had great results.
