I have been so frustrated lately with mascara. For years, I was a loyal user of Max Factor mascara... the best! I wear contacts and it never failed me. Over the years, I've tried Maybelline L'oreal (I swear every kind at this line), Bare Minerals (have to use so much to get volume), tarte, Peter Thomas Roth (totally gave me black circles under my eyes after crying at a funeral)... these either flake, have no volume, go on and dry hard, or do nothing for my lashes.

I hate to spend the money on the top brands like Lancome, but I may have to resort to it.

Anyone have any good suggestions on really good mascaras that work and do what they say they'll do? I've thought about It Cosmetics, but they have varied reviews. I'm just frustrated. I have nice eyelashes but with bad mascara it ruins the look.

I appreciate any ideas or great buys you can share.

Thanks!!

If you don't want to spend over $20, try Aveda Mosscara. I wear the brown one. There is also a black. It conditions the lashes too. I also had luck with an almay mascara. Stila also has very nice mascaras. Yes, some mascaras are $25 and up - rather high but you just have to seek out alternatives. I hope you find one you like.

Thanks KatCat1...

I don't mind spending a little more on something that is good. I think over the years the drug store brands have gone downhill. With all the advertising in magazines and TV, you would think they would have better products.

I will check out the Aveda since I go there for my haircuts.

I was just on the Stila website. Under "Makeup" look for "Phased out Favorites" -- they have one mascara for $10 and a mascara & 2 eye shadows for $8. You can always do a Google on coupon codes for Stila for free shipping too.

I've tried a lot and really like Cover Girl Lash Blast in the orange tube. It's cheap, about $5.99 and a lot of times CVS or Walgreens has it buy one get one 50% off. My cousin is a make-up artist and it's what he uses.

I was on mascara quest for years before I found Mally volume mascara. It stays put and does not run on me. I have a ton of allergies and sensitivities and watery eyes. No matter how little or how much I paid for mascara it was a mess at the corner of my eyes and I had those dreaded raccoon circles. Not with Mally. I also like Bobbi Brown and I do not get the raccoon eyes. I think Mally offer's a better price than BB but you may prefer the BB formula. It seems a bit silkier to me. I know they say to put on two coats but these mascaras are very good and sometimes I only apply one coat and it looks fine.

Benefit They're Real was the answer for me. No spider eyes, but enough is deposited in one coat to look realistic. No raccoon eyes, either.
