@Effie54 wrote:@smoochy Well gee, you're hands and nails sure are pretty!!
thanks. I wanted to show the color im wearing and to illustrate how far I've come with nail health.
@smoochy Honestly, you look fabulous! I'm jealous. My nails would never, ever look that good. And I love the color, so beautiful.

I have had nail tips, acrylics and gels. My poor nails have somehow survived through it all.
I now use Nail-Aid Keratin 3 Day Growth clear polish. I actually buy it at Walmart and the last bottle I bought was still under $4. The directions say to put it on every 3 days. I also use it as a base & top coat if I wear a color polish.
I highly recommend it.

@smoochy - Absolutely beautiful! They look so professional!
OK - so if you ask me what is the thing I like best about my body I would say my nails. I inherited my mom's strong nails. I have never had artificial ones, press ons, or anything like that. I had gel nails once for a two week trip. It was nice that I didn't have to worry about polish chipping, but the whole time I kept thinking there was something "on" my nails. I couldn't wait to get them off when I got home.
I love to play with colors, and I often change the color about twice a week. But sometimes, with a season, if it's not chipping I'll leave it on.
But if they are longer and I have to trim one, they all come down.
I have LOTS of brands and colors, mostly OPI. My latest obsession is Nails, Inc. Although right now I'm wearing Londontown Lakur in Starry Chrome. I plan to switch to a lighter green Saturday. Whichever brand I use, I always use a base and top coat from the same brand. I usually put on two coats of color in between.
When I take my color off, I wash my hands then use CND Solar Oil. I massage it in, then wash my hands and let them dry for about 15 minutes. Then I will start the polish part. ![]()

talking about nails always reminds me...in 1984 when I was a couple days from delivering my first child, I was put on bed rest. Nothing to do but watch Dallas, Lifetime movies and do my nails. I kept adding coats of polish, by the time I went to the hospital it looked like vinyl siding 😄

@SamBrown wrote:Mine are short and natural. I like the look of a clear coat but find it doesn't last very long and using nail polish remover ruins the nail. Even if using a light or a clear coat - does everyone use nail polish remover every few days? For me, it's not the polish that's a problem - it's the remover.
yes actually I do use polish remover every few days. 100% acetone I agree that is lIkely a big reason for dry brittle nails. Ive tried the non acetone remover but it doesn't work very well

I have never had a manicure because I was a life long nail biter and now that I stopped ripping them off I still tend to chew on them so I won't spend money on something I'll wreck.
To get nails I use Nailtique 2. I just use it as a basecoat. I think years ago when I first started I followed the rule of using it multiple days but know once a week under color is enough.
I've gotten very lazy so I'm generally just using a quick dry color. I'm really not good about sitting around waiting for nails to dry. If I do use something else I do it right before bed and use OPI or Zoya color with Seche Vite quick dry topcoat. Then I put Solar Oil over it and go to bed. The oil keeps anything from screwing with the polish if it's still tacky at all.

@smoochy ...I use either Sally Hansen or, Cuticle Eliminator...which is fantastic.
Despite those...my Cuticles still get out of control, both on hands and feet.
I have to do my pedicures every 2 weeks or my toes and toe nails will be a mess...ALOT of work. I use oils, and O'Keefe foot cream, looks good for 2 weeks, but doesn't control the overgrown cuticles and keratin build up along sidewalls of big toes....I have special tools I need to use to keep that cleared out. It's basically what podiatrist uses.
Ive read using Vaseline or Aquaphor at night may help....but i think if your prone to these problems nothing will stop it...its just a temporary relief.

@justashopper I use the nailtiques, 2Plus every now and then to strengthen my natural nails. It is a protien treatment. I apply every other day for a week or two. Then I go back to polish. Polish of any kind, (and I use Deborah Lippman and Butter and few other 4-5 free polishes) dries my nails. big Time!!! This treatment seems to help. I buy on Amazon. I think it's around 14 bux. Helps me. I do my natural nails. I hav someone come to home every 3 weeks to do mini/pedi...but artificial nails of any kind just aren't for me. My nails hate them, lol!
