How do you know if it has Nano particles? Like the TSV does it have Nano? Do they usually say Nano on the bottle or how do we know?

@SandGirl  We don’t know unless it is put on the label.  Without regulation the beauty industry is like a mine field.

So does anyone know if the TSV today has Nano technology in it? I was going to grab it but now I'm not so sure....

Re: Nano sized particles used in Skin Care and cosmetics

I studied cosmetics for the hair and skin back in the 70’s.  Many products even back then were dangerous, but had been used for years.  Things like like cold tar and lead were common ingredients.

The FDA does not regulate cosmetics.  They only regulate the ingredients used in the color additives and the packaging that must list the ingredients.

i do not use cosmetics or hair color and refuse to.   It is dangerous and could possibly harm or kill you.

I know telling women this won’t make a difference.  Most women would rather worry about vanity than health.

As long as people keep buying cosmetics, the manufactures will continue to make them.  Since there is no regulation, they can put anything in them that will achieve the results that is desired.

Every time someone submits a bill for more regulation, the cosmetic industry fights back. This has been going on long enough.

Right now all we can do is educate ourselves and try to find cosmetics that are as safe as possible.

@Carmie,  I listen and hear you, but I have never seen data that backs up such a broad generalization. If cosmetics and hair color were so dangerous and harmful, I think that we would have heard more about it, just as we have been alerted regarding so many other substances.

I don't believe they are toxic, so it's not a "vanity" issue at all  Without credible, scientific data, we'll just have to decide for ourselves.

@suzyQ3  There is a lot of information out there.  It is not difficult to find.

The problem is two fold.  The cosmetic industry is a big one...billions so of dollars are spent on cosmetics every year.  They fight and win when they are challenged.  They have the money to do it. There have been many bills trying to regulate them that never get passed.  They are not regulated by the FDA.

The  second reason is that people don’t want cosmetics regulated.  They do not want to stop using hair color or cosmetics, even if they are dangerous. It’s a vanity over health issue.  People turn a blind eye when it comes to the way they look.

if you want to hear about it....you have to look for information.  The cosmetic industry will not tell you upfront.

Just google Grecian Formula for men for an example.  There is lead in it and other toxic chemicals.  The formula sold in Europe is safer because it is regulated there, but the toxic version is still sold here in the US. Google lead in lipstick...how many women an young girls are eating lead?  Can’t manufacture paint with lead in it anymore, but it can be used in lipstick.

Our government is not looking out for us.  We have a false sense of security here.

Re: Nano sized particles used in Skin Care and cosmetics

[ Edited ]

I understand your concerns, @Carmie, but I don't share them when it comes to cosmetics.

I am one who always favors regulation over business interests; it's just that I have never seen credilble evidence that there are harmful or deadly amounts of any substance in makeup.

I'm sure that there is information out there to support your claim. But that doesn't in and of itself prove anything in these days of the Internet and its often seemingly misproportionate amount of unreal "news."

Back to regulation, though, I heartily agree that profit drives the case against regulation, especially now. In almost every arena, regulations are being dialed back or eliminated under the specious theory that they hurt business and thus consumers. This will continue unless people start to connect the dots and care enough about our health and safety to take action.

But in this era of fading truth and confidence in science, I'm not optimistic. Without knowledge and good cognitive skills, we are easily manipulated.

@SeaMaiden@suzyQ3

I will read the articles mentioned.

”Buckey-balls” I know about...which are caused by nano-particles incorporated by the human body.

I also read that the technology needed to create nano-particles is so expensive that they wouldn’t be present in skincare or cosmetic products.

There are unknowns with nano-technology that are scary to me, so I won’t be knowingly using them.

@suzyQ3  I respect your opinion and I thought you would say that. Most  people do.

They are not willing to give up cosmetics or limit their use,or check the ingredients for safety.

Re: Nano sized particles used in Skin Care and cosmetics

@Carmie, I'm far more dedicated to what I wrote about regulation in general. I did edit my last reply to emphasize my concern.

However, I do wish that if you respect my opinion, you will not lump me into some group to which I may or may not belong. I explained my opinion, and it had nothing whatsoever to do with vanity.
