SEEKING ADVICE:  I'm looking for several new polishes.  Yah, I know...news flash in this thread, right, lol?  But I'm hoping you can help me find two:  The first one is a medium 'not quite red, not quite maroon' polish that seems to go with everything.  I saw one on a woman years ago, and it didn't matter what color clothing she wore, it always seemed to go with everything.  Does anyone have a fav polish that seems to do this, in that color range?

The second is a dark navy polish with a silvery glitter, which would remind me of a starry night.  Anyone have a fav to share?

Thank you so much for helpful tips, I'm having fun getting into this 'world' of nail polishes!

Would this one work for your "not quite red, not quite maroon?"  Or is it lighter than you wanted?

Hi @AndiO, that one is very close to the one I remember, which was maybe a shade or two darker.  I like this one a lot & plan to get it...thank you!

@AndiO...oops, no I'm not.  The lowest price I've found on a bottle is $30!  I'm back on my search....

@Serenity-Now I can't help much with actual choices for red/maroon. I just don't have any I've worn enough. But I know what you mean about colors that go with everything. I've noticed that i handbags...some just go with way more things than you thought they would. I would check out OPI, Zoya and China Glaze. They all have a wide range of colors (for some reason, my first thought was OPI).

As @gacat123 mentioned, Essie has re-released Starry Starry Night. Every review I've read indicates that it's not a really a dupe of the original. But I've seen several comments that people liked it on its own...just a disappointmet if you were actually seeking the original.

Two that I have that are still available are Zoya Dream and KB Shimmer Carpe Denim. Dream has been really popuse a couple of years ago. Carpe Denim was popular as well. Personally, I like Carpe Denim better.

Two other possibilities are Pretty Serious Eye of Copernicus and OPI Give Me Space. Pretty Serious is an Autralian company, but they have a US warehouse, so no dealing with international shipping. It's also available from several stockists. The OPI polish is from last winter, so it may be showing up on clearance racks.

I have several other polishes that might fit the bill (some have a bit larger glitters), but they are no longer available. And there are probably dozens of others out there.

no longer available?  this happens ALL THE TIME! you like something and they quit making it.  this Starry Stary Night by ESSIE may not be the same recipe but close enough and may soon no longer be available again!  good grief!  CAT

@gacat123 Remember I'm almost exclusively buying indie polishes. The individuals.making and selling them (many of these are one-person businesses,, with perhaps a bit of help from a spouse or friends at peak times) aren't producing them in anywhere near the volume that a mainstream brand does.

I know at the time of purchase, that I most likely won't be able to obtain an additional bottle.. What I enjoy most is variety and I can't imagine that I'd ever wear any given polish enough to use it up (obvously excluding bse coat, top coat, basic black and white for under other polishes). So it really isn't an issue to me.

@Serenity-Now I'm kind of responding to posts at random...

I'm sure you cleanup was just fine. The reality is that a)most people aren't all that focused on others' nails anyway; b) theiy're viewing them from a distance and c) they're definitely NOT lookinng at an enlarged image. Please tell me you were at least using a quick dry top coat. Even then changing clothes is not exactly something I care to do right after I'm done.

I'm so glad the VV polish worked out so well for you. Do you mind if I pass along your comments to Adrienne? I'm sure she'd love to know!

I hope you find out soon whether or not you will be moving. I can't even imagine having to move all the stuff I've accumulated. But the thought of being in limbo with part of it in storage is even worse. On the positive side, it's a great excuse to buy some new polishes and they don't take up much space. Enjoy them when they arrive! And don't forget to show us what you're wearing.

Re: Nail polish threads.

[ Edited ]

@juperier, sure you can share the comments with Adrienne...and tell her I'll be coming back soon, to buy another one!  I can't be without that polish now, really adore it.

Yes, I tried the new Julep Tada! quick-dry drops, and since I was using the OPI polish that dries quicker, I was able to get dressed & out of the house within only 10 minutes with nary a mar on my new mani!  I was relieved, lol.

Although I'm a novice at this selfie thing & it looks like I might be hitch-hiking, I was trying to find the right angle to take this pic without shadows ruining the brightness, or not having enough polished nails show up.  So, hitch-hiker model, at your service!

OPI Blue My Mind Nlb24.jpg

To critique this polish, OPI Blue My Mind, this is with 2 coats of the blue (1 clear base coat polish) & Seche top coat.  Even with 2 coats of blue, you can see where it is less opaque near the nail tips, even looking like the very tips don't have any polish on them, whatsoever.  The Virago Varnish 'Show Stopper' (a similar shade) was thicker, had a slightly lovlier nuance to it that I enjoyed more & couldn't take my eyes off of, although this polish is very close.  The Virago Varnish is also a matte, so to get the shinier look, one has to put a top coat over it...but we do that anyway, don't we?  So, I will stick with the Virago from now on, although I will probably have a bottle of this OPI polish as back-up, since this is my fav color at the moment!
