@juperier  That's awesome!  Thanks again.  I'll start with the articles.... not quite ready for the book!  LOL

@ItsME I get that! I find the "why" of things interesting and thought it would serve as a great reference. I haven't delved into the info on allergies, sanitation and salon safety that much. But it did give me an understanding and greater respect for the various things we put on our nails, and bodies for that matter. He has a new book coming out in the next month or two. Only hint is that it will contain different info/topics. Since he will have control of distribution, it will be available for Kindle.

Did you ever find out the specific ingredient (s) you are allergic to? I'm just curious like that! It's probably not worth the effort and expense for most people. Simple solution is stop wearing polish. There are several ingredients that are common to almost all polish bases. The remaining ingredients vary by manufacturer (for example there are several solvents or combinaitons of solvents that can be used). There are far fewer base manufacturers than I would have thought. Someone can also be allergic to specific colorants that others do not react to. So, at least to me, for most people the best solution is just to not wear polish.

@juperier I don't know exactly what it is in polish that I'm allergic to, but I've tried brands that supposedly don't have any of the bad-for-nails ingredients, and I still have a problem.  And, I'd bet that the polish remover would also be a problem .... but my nails break even before I get to the point of taking it off.

Costco has a product that is much less than elsewhere and has excellent reviews if you search the web.  I just purchased it. There is also a 4 piece vegan nail polish set that has a nice price attached to it. Both are posted below. The Deborah Lippman nail polish sets are minis and I didn't like them.

@ItsME  Could you be more specific as to what type of polish you're talking about (acrylic, hard gel, soak off gel, gel polish, gel-like, regular), plus any other symptoms? I know it's very confusing, just describe what was being used, and/or the process, the best you can.

First off, I'm not questioning the fact that you might well be allerigic. But going only from what you've written, it sounds like you are talking about improperly applied/cured gel polish (which definitely increases the risk of developing an allegey at some point).  I would expect you to be menitoning burning, redness, rash, blisters, something along those lines if you are already allergic. And, while regular or gel-like polish might peel off, I wouldn't expect it to be described as breaking off. On the other hand, the other categories add a hardened layer to the nail, which could break off.

Believe me, I know it's confusing. Every time I think I more or less have it down, I discover another distinction. It doesn't help that there a good amount of mis-information and inconsistant terminology out there.

@tedEbear

Did it work for you?    My mother used it for almost a year and didn't notice any difference at all.

@ItsME    Nope, it is only available online. Sometimes, certain products are available at different Costcos, but you never know.
