I didn't know we have a "lower lid".  I thought humans had just one eye lid.

We all have our difference preferences but sometimes I'll see a lady on a tv show and she looks tired and sleepy.  The more I stare at her, I notice it's because she only lined her top lid.  In my opinion, unless you have very "bulbous" and large eyes, it looks better to line both top and bottom.  Again, MY opinion only.

Re: NO, NO RACHEL

[ Edited ]

I LOVE the Clinique Pretty Easy liquid pen.  It is BY FAR,  the best I've used in a very long time, but it was only available in black (now I see some places have a dark brown). I've tried all sorts of liners.   Was using the little BB pot but that dried up too fast for the $.  Then someone here recommended the Clinique pot and it was much better, IMO, than the BB.  Lasted FOREVER and went on so smoothly.   It was only available in black and then I couldn't get it.  Someone I know gave me a gift of the Clinique  Pretty Easy liquid because she wasn't going to use it.  HOOKED ... HOOKED... HOOKED!   It lasts all day,  and my days are easily 19 hours.

I line the bottom from edge to edge...   as thin as possible, and thin on top too.   I tried the look without liner on the bottom and it looked unfinished. Because I couldn't get it in brown I was using black top and bottom.   I'm going to open one of my new brown purchases and use that on the bottom and the black on top.

To the average person who enjoys putting on make up (not you @Shanus ),  you see yourself a certain way,  get used to a look,  or just like to have fun and change things up...  so you do want feels right or works at that moment.    Our friend Shanus, looks with a professional eye.  Shanus,  even though you love to apply it,  your training and years of working on your clients direct your application as you know it to be correct.  I wish I knew all the tricks you do.   For the rest of us ....   GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN!!!!!.

Unless I'm wearing a dramatic smoky black eye, I only use brown or navy liner.  I use it all along the lower lashline and smudge it.  Occasionally I'll use shadow in a lighter color as a liner on the inner section of the lower lashline.  My eyes are neither small or large.  Average but hooded.  I don't wear eyeliner on my top lashline since I'm wearing false lashes and use black glue.  I'm good at getting them right on the lashline but if I don't I'll use black liner to fill in any gaps.

Lately I have not been lining with liner underneath, just using a darker shadow instead. If I do use liner underneath I have to really smudge it and maybe soften with shadow on top of the liner. My aging eyes can’t take a harsh line underneath anymore.

I don't do a bottom liner, I prefer a natural look to my makeup.  Also bottom liner makes my eyes look smaller.

The thing I love about makeup is there is no "right" way.

It can be used to enhance your natural face. It can be used to change your natural face. It can be used to make a statement.

Maybe Rachel has tried her eyeliner the way that you think that she should do it & she didn't like the way it looked.

Maybe she does it the way you like some days & on this day she decided to try another way.

I rarely wear my makeup the same way 2 days in a row. And, some days I get out in the world & look in my rearview mirror & think "Well, that was not a great choice.".

I don't do "editorial" looks. I'm not doing wild makeup.

But, somedays it's a thin subtle liner for my eyes. Somedays it's a smudgey liner. Somedays it's just a bit on the outer corner to shape that area.

Dark colors, light colors, barely there colors, a bit of red or purple or blue or orange...not in your face, but just a suggestion.

I love makeup for the possibilities & fun.

I totally agree, there is no right or wrong way when it comes to make up.  We are not born wearing make up, we use it to create our own personal look.  I wear make up just about everyday, I play with different colors and different products.  I'm not into "my face is Oval so I must do....." type of thinking.

@monicakm  - what brand of black glue do you use?

Kiss.  Don't have any particular likes or dislikes about it like I did the Extra Hold (white) glue I bought on Amazon.  It's just what my local WM had.  A really helpful trick I discovered a few weeks ago was to hit the eyelash (with glue) with a hair dryer for about 4 seconds.
