In the MAC show, Rachel is lining her bottom lid only half way. It needs to be smudged or lined all along the bottom. Looks strange to just stop the liner...obviously not finished.

I like to put liner in the outer corner and smudge with brush or q tip all along bottom lid in a lighter shade than top liner.

How do you do the bottom liner?

The thing I love about makeup is there is no "right" way.

It can be used to enhance your natural face. It can be used to change your natural face. It can be used to make a statement.

Maybe Rachel has tried her eyeliner the way that you think that she should do it & she didn't like the way it looked.

Maybe she does it the way you like some days & on this day she decided to try another way.

I rarely wear my makeup the same way 2 days in a row. And, some days I get out in the world & look in my rearview mirror & think "Well, that was not a great choice.".

I don't do "editorial" looks. I'm not doing wild makeup.

But, somedays it's a thin subtle liner for my eyes. Somedays it's a smudgey liner. Somedays it's just a bit on the outer corner to shape that area.

Dark colors, light colors, barely there colors, a bit of red or purple or blue or orange...not in your face, but just a suggestion.

I love makeup for the possibilities & fun.

Very well stated. The way we apply our makeup is not static and as you say there is no "right or wrong".

Too judgmental! 👎

@magicmoodz Sometimes it IS about enhancing your looks, of course.

Sometimes it is just about a fun look or a great color that I want to put on my eyes, cheeks or lips.

Sometimes it gets a compliment "You look so great." & that is the makeup that isn't meant to be mentioned. It just helped you look the way that you want to.

Sometimes it's "Wow! I love that eye shadow or lipstick!". The classic red lip that always gets noticed isn't about JUST enhancing your natural beauty. It is meant to grab attention!

Agreed! I have recently changed the application of my eye makeup and have gotten many compliments. At the same time there might be others who don't like it--which is fine.

I just would not expect them to say "no, no magic, you are doing it all wrong". Even if the comment came from a "bona fide" professional.

My eyes are smallish, so I don't like to line the bottom lid the whole way--especially if I'm using a darker color. But I never do a sharp, defined line...I start at the outer corner and taper it out so there is not an obvious end point.

I line my entire lower lid on the inside right against the lashes with a gel pencil.  I've heard lining only half your eye (both top and bottom) opens up the eye making them look larger although I don't care for it on me, especially on the top.  I have also tried the smudge thing underneath the eye and that's a no.  Gives me the raccoon eye look.  I might just do a little smudge at the outer corner.

@Shanus does know what she is talking about.  I do think that we should all do what we like, though, even if it means that some may think that our application could be better.

Over time, I like myself less and less with liner at the lower lid, even with a lighter color or smudged.  Either I don't do that at all, or I line underneath with a medium shade eye shadow.

THAT'S what you focused on?  LOL  I couldn't see anything past that awful eye shadow.

I only line my bottom lid maybe 1/3 of the way.  That was taught to me by makeup artists years ago, and it works well.
