I colored my hair from the time I was 12 years old (when my cotton top start becoming dishwater blond) until I was 75.  I kept doing what you are doing, Shanus, until I saw it was futile.

I let my hair grow out and didn't particulalry like the color.  It was that blue-gray color all over.

Then I started on chemo and I have a beautiful color of silver, gray, white and it looks dimensional.  The one positive about chemo was that it gave me great hair color.  I would never go back to chemical hair color again.

My beautiful sister who is 5-10, 80 years old (looks 55) modeled in her earlier years and still no wrinkles, for once in our lifetimes, is jealous of me: my hair color. Finally, before we die, she is jealous of my natural hair color. I spent my lifetime being jealous of her.

@Nonametodayhow long ago was that?  I've heard of people's hair growing back curly after cancer treatments, but, from what I've heard, it doesn't last.

I'm kinda jealous of the people whose hair turned curly after menopause.  I'd love to not have to perm.  I'm still coloring at 66.  Besides getting rid of the gray roots, I like the way hair color plumps up my hair.  I have fine hair and can use all the help I can get.

@Icegoddess

I got a little bit of curl and not much after chemo.  It doesn't take much to straighten it if I wish or to twirl it a bit on a brush and keep it curly.  The chemo is what turned it the color I like but after I shed all my hair first.  My hair didn't just all fall out in clumps.  It was a shower drain loaded or a hairbrush full or just all over the floor in my bathroom when I was brushing it.  Not clumps, more like a dog shedding.

@MariotaMurielle   I've used Shea Moisture Deep Conditioner (in a jar at drugstore) about twice a week for many yrs. because curly hair, even when not grey, needs extra hydration to keep frizz at bay. Try it to see if it helps you.

@Shanus, thank you for recommending the Shea Moisture Deep Conditioner. my hair will never be like it was until my highlights are eventually trimmed away, but this conditioner has done so much better than any of the other products I have tried.

@MariotaMurielle   You're welcome. I just used it yesterday since I go for a haircut Monday (I hope only a trim, but I never know). Twice a week with a cheapie shower cap and hair is changed.

***BTW, I used and am still using ColorWow on the roots to help blend in the regrowth and it works great. Doesn't come off until wash day.

I love ColorWow and use many of their products. I love their Root Coverup. I do my roots every 6 weeks, and get highlights 3 to 4 times a year. Around week 4, I start using the Root Coverup (in the perfect world, I'd dye my roots every 3 weeks). I have 3 different colors and can actually extend highlight visits by 'painting' in highlights with the different color powders. Only root coverup I've found that looks natural and stays in until I wash my hair. Good Stuff!
