Mascara too heavy?

I've been curling my hard-to-curl lashes with a heated eyelash curler and they look nice and curled. Then I add mascara. Back to straight. (I've even tried curling again after I apply mascara and it does nothing.)

I've tried Mally, Mabelline, Tarte, Bobbi Brown, Dior and a copole of other lines that I can't recall at the moment.

Is there a product that won't clump, smudge, flake, and will create volume?

I'm thinking the mascara is too heavy? Is that possible?
