Mally's Volumizing Mascara Question!

I just received the mascara and have a question about applying it. I found that unless I wipe off a layer of the mascara from the brush...it is waaay to thick. But, once I do that...it seems to go on "more clean" and less heavy. I also have to use a light hand when applying it too. Has anyone else found that and/or applies it the same way?
