Re: Make Americans Rethink maybe

This is a political tirade that you've posted many times, OP, which is, I guess, your right, although not allowed by QVC standards that specifically prohibit political and/or controversial topics.

You ask, "Why are our kids fighting and dying for Americans who have kids and grandkids will not go and serve our country but they sure want the freedom to buy China made products"

I'm not even sure what you're saying here, but I personally do want the freedom to buy products from any country, as long as doing so is not illegal.

That freedom - plus no one going on these tirades ever talks about how many jobs would be lot if we didn't SELL to China. Seems to me if we set out to erect trade barriers they will also and then we won't have new jobs coming back, just jobs being filled by people already working with companies selling in China.

And some prices will go up! Before there were the companies outsourcing, clothing was much more expensive than it is now in many cases and incomes were much less, so really it was much, much more.

We need balance, not close off.

I'm not sure a lot of people have a grasp of what generations ahead of us went thru to get a 8 hour work day, a living wage, and safe working conditions. My relatives are all from Northeastern Minnesota working in some way in the taconite mines. I am opening myself up to all kinds of commentary about unions, workers rights, ect, but you need to understand where the country was before you can move ahead and not have history repeat itself.

She is saying you have the right to buy from anywhere because our kids are fighting. Everyone I know is for more American made products. Wise up.

No. It's nonsensical to equate our current wars with the freedom to buy products in China. We fight wars for a variety of reasons, some of which may have to do with protecting our freedoms, while some are for other reasons. Simplistic notions are for bumper stickers.

And I said nothing about wanting or not wanting more American-made products. I simply said that I want the freedom to buy from those countries with which we do business, and I don't think there is anything evil about that. In fact, the country of origin is not the only who who profits; so do all those here who are involved in the chain.

YMMV.

{#emotions_dlg.thumbup} I'll always high-five anyone who appreciates the history of labor in this country and who worries about losing those hard-won battles of the past.

On a news program my husband was watching, they said more jobs may be coming back to America. Due to rising prices and having to pay higher wages, it will no longer be cost effective and some will be bringing the jobs home. I really hope this is true.

I saw the same program and it was very encouraging! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

FYI, the ABC Nightly News with David Muir has ongoing segments called MADE IN AMERICA and highlights American companies .... they go visit the workers and businesses and by the end of each segment, there's another American product you can look for when shopping! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Re: Make Americans Rethink maybe

The OP has good points, though....

-) The recommended film was probably manufactured overseas
-) The TV/DVD to watch the film, was probably manufacured overseas
-) The computer the OP is writing this on was probably manufactured overseas
-) On and on and on

Our world today is very, very small. Unless you're 100% off the grid, living in a cave, hunting/gathering your own food/drink & wearing a loin cloth, there's a greater than zero chance the one complaining about overseas production, is still contributing to said problem. It's unavoidable.
