Mac painterly - burns???

I'd heard such great things about this paint pot that I finally bought one. I've tried it twice and both times my eyelids have burned so badly I had to run to take it off. Has this happened to anyone else? Wondering if I got an old or bad item - bought it at a high end store with a very big inventory, so I don't think it's fake or anything. Thanks!!
