My father worked with a lady named Corliss when I was a kid. She was wild with very heavy make up. I adored that kind sweet lady. I knew it was overkill but it was Corliss and she was cool.😎

Maybe she's not happy with the way her new lighter makeup looks when she does it herself, so she goes back to what she feels she does better.

It's like when I get a new hairstyle.  I can never duplicate what the hairstylist does myself, so I end up styling it the same way I always do.

But clearly she likes you, since she keeps coming back.  If she's happy with the way things are, that's all that really matters.  Unless she's expressed displeasure with something, she must be happy with your consultations.

ask her if she's having a difficult time duplicating the look you give her

@Shanus

Sounds like she's helping the economy, loves your company and services and seems that she's legitimately interested in changing her looks but ends up in her comfort zone.

Maybe one of these times for whatever reason (s) / chain of events she'll appear with her new toned down look!

I have a sweeter than anything client who comes in for a facial every 3-4 months and about every 6 months comes in for a new makeup look/lesson.

It never fails that she has a full face of heavy, full coverage foundation, too dark blush/lips and the heaviest eye makeup, fake lashes, too. She insists on going back to this look even though she pays me for a more natural look since she's 67 and says she wants to wear less makeup. When I complete her more toned down look, she loves it, purchases the items I've used (I write them down for everyone to purchase wherever, don't sell products) and she buys them all, but comes back in every time with her same Tammy Faye look.

I'm so frustrated, but she's so sweet. Any suggestions what I can tell her?

@Shanus  Sadly you can't fix stupid

Some women are so caught up in the styles of their youth...hair, make-up, clothes...that you can tell their age simply by their look. Blue eyeshadow, bee-hive hair or long stringy hair are just a few examples. I even knew a woman who wore a 1940s pompadour until the day she died. I'm not sure why some people get stuck in a decade but it's often not a good idea. Mid century modern is OK for furniture but for personal style it's a no-no.

@linden   If someone seems "makeup challenged", I do 1/2 face and they do the other following along. I always leave extra time and if the look seems intimidating, I'm more than willing to cleanse the face and watch as the client does the entire face from the start and asks questions.

@SeaMaiden    ...not stupid, I think more stuck.

@Vivian   You're correct, but I think I said earlier that many women get stuck (hair,  makeup and/or clothing) in the years they have the most pleasant memories.

Continue to be your talented, kind and patient self.  Even if the new look doesn't "stick" she enjoys the time that she spends with you.

Do the math.
