Generally speaking, I am not a germaphobe, but I was at the MAC counter this morning looking at lipsticks, and it was pretty disgusting. All the lipstick samples were open & exposed, and I could see all kinds of "things" stuck to the lipstick: fuzz, hair, dirt, etc. The SR asked me if I wanted to see anything, and I told her what colors I was interested in. She grabbed the dirty sample lipsticks, sprayed them with something (alcohol?) and rubbed them on a tissue. Then she told me to go ahead and apply them directly to my lips. I don't think so. I told her I was uncomfortable with that and walked away.

I went to another counter where the tubes of lipstick samples were displayed in a fashion that the lipstick itself wasn't exposed to the open air. The SA took a sample of the lipstick with a disposable brush and applied it that way. That didn't bother me. Is that just a false sense of security (germ-wise) on my part?

Like I said, I'm not particularly freaked out by MU counters or germs; this was the first time it was so visibly dirty, or maybe just the first time I noticed.

Am I being paranoid? Thoughts, please.

TIA
