I wish I could take collagen as a supplement. It doesn't agree with me. I tried it a few times and had side-effects. I'm not able to tolerate bovine products. My supplements have to be vegetarian.

@Effie54  second that,  I would love to find one without bovine, as I do have osteoporosis

@Effie54 @shoekitty

Can you two use marine collagen? If so Vital Proteins makes a Marine Collagen and a lot of people prefer it......

Re: Let’s Talk Collagen Powder

I have read that collagen powder is heated at such a high temperature in the manufacturing process that it kills all the good stuff.   Some of these brands get such high reviews, though, so I wonder how that can be true. 🤷‍♀️ Ideally, if taking the powder form, adding it to morning coffee is an easy way to work it in.  I'm fasting in the morning and collagen powder will break a fast, so I take my collagen later.  A liquid form works best for me.  I take Health Direct AminoSculpt Liquid Collagen (grassfed, bovine, sugar free) either when I'm making our lunch or immediately after.  Supposedly liquid absorbs better/faster. 🤷‍♀️ The AminoSculpt can be taken right off the spoon or mixed in something else.  I need to keep tabs on my daily protein so I usually only take one tablespoon when I take it, but some days I skip.

Re: Let’s Talk Collagen Powder

@SurferWife I started a year ago with Primal Collagen. I don't drink coffee so have to make it with hot tea. My nails and my hip felt better. I ran out and switched to Alaya. Not caring for it. Has a taste to it so I have slacked off and with it being so hot here in FL, i haven't feltvlike drinking hot beverages. And my joints can tell.

Re: Let’s Talk Collagen Powder

@shoekitty sorry I responded to the wrong person.  Please explain more about having osteoporosis as to why you can't take Vital Proteins.  I have osteoporosis and don't know what that has to do with that Brand.  Can we only take a certain type of collagen?  My Dr never mentioned it.  Right now taking no collagen

Re: Let’s Talk Collagen Powder

I've tried many brands from expensive to cheap and took them several different times for months at a time but could not tell that they did anything to help any of my issues.  Which at almost 63, mainly consists of joint pain, stiffness, a bit of knee pain, etc.  I even tried just taking Collagen II, which is specifically for joints.  So I gave up on them.  The only thing that has ever helped me, and I will take until my dying day, is the sulfate forms of glucosomine and chondroitin.

Re: Let’s Talk Collagen Powder

I started taking it years ago for aching joints and muscle pain while moving.  And it helped a lot.  I was amazed.

Then about four years ago we really modified our diet, lost a little weight, and now I don't have the joint and muscle pain whether I take it or not.

My mother took gelatin for her nails back in the 60's and swore it helped.

[ Edited ]

I have been using Vital Proteins for 3 plus years and I have noticed a difference.  My hair is stronger and my knees do not hurt.  I also walk at least 10,000 steps a day - I have also seen an improvement in my skin too.

I have osteopena and so far my Doctor has not said anything about my bone density improving.  I get scanned once a year.  I take a lot of meds that are not bone friendly and in the past have been referred for Reclast treatments.  For two years I did the Reclast treatment but there was no improvement.

I pickup my collagen at Sam's Club.  The difference in Sam's club collagen and the collagen at the store is the price and the collagen Jennifer Aniston was promoting (years ago) also had hyaluronic acid in the mix.  I pick up 4 or more containers when they are $24 versus $30
