@Shanus,

Another trivial thing about the old-day Geishas...many of them were bald on the top of their heads from wearing their hair pulled up into a very tight ponytail and then having wear the heavy ornaments in the hair made it pull even more. Eventually many resorted to wearing wigs because of their balding.

@SilleeMee  Not trivial at all. Quite interesting.

Yes, I have noticed less tanning also. Exceptions are those working in construction and landscaping.

The white makeup on this Geisha...

Notice the intentional lack of application on the back of the neck. This is done to attract attention to the nape of the neck. The nape of the neck in traditional Japanese culture is as sensual as what Westerners see in cleavage and decolletage on a woman. @Shanus

@SilleeMee  Back of neck is usually not shown. Guess why I never knew that more than interesting info.

Tans are unhealthy. I live in Florida and don’t know a single person who purposely tans or uses fake tanner. Seeing someone with a noticeable tan does not cause me to think they look great; quite the opposite.

I generally don't notice things like this at all unless it's extreme or someone is an unfortunate shade of orange. I've never noticed enough to compare one year to the next.

Most people's natural skintone is medium, a light olive or light tan. Most people tan easily with very little exposure. So I see that around me. And I do so envy it

I don't think sunbathing is the national sport it once was. Don't see the sunworshipper look or the teenager who lives inside a tanning booth look so much these days.

I agree..in my area, I have seen less tan people as well! I do like having a little color in the summer. I use a gradual tanner & have gotten a few nice spray tans that look natural. I feel better about my legs when they have color

I am pretty good with SPF overall these days and even protect my hands and neck in the car while driving.

I don't live any where near the ocean or any large bodies of water, and it has rained a lot here this summer, but tons of people here are super tanned.  That look has never gone out of style or whatever you want to call it in this area.  I am like the only super pale or fair person in my office.  I kind of feel like a different species at times!  Well, some people just tan easily and that is fine and lovely.  Others, have to really work at it and their skin is really showing the damage --- not a good look in my opinion.  But, oh, well, it's not my skin and everyone can do what they want!!!  When I was younger, I did my best to get tanned -- went to the beds and layed out and fried myself --- oh, my --- how dumb!  I finally wised up!!!  I am fair and that is who I am!!!!

Thanks SilleeMee for posting about the Info about the Geishas!  I find it fascinating. (And yes I’m very fair and notice much less tanning. For the last couple of years actually.)
