Less Tan People

[ Edited ]

This summer I saw so many less tan and super tan people than ever. Have you noticed in your area? Usually everyone I see is tan but not this year which is nice since I am pale Smiley Happy

I dont tan outside in the sun and dont use tanning beds. Now and then I will use a little self tanner but I get lazy Smiley Very Happy

Thru the years I would be in the sun and get really tan but for the past 15 I havent. I see friends and people that I know who get really tan look older and leathery and their skin looks fried!

One friend, her skin looks like leather and she looks 10 or more years older than me.

I live 10 minutes from the beach. The people around where I live are extremely tan. I am one of the few around here that remains fair year round...

@OhioAngel--no I haven't noticed anyone tans or lack of one--I don't tan anymore. But when I was working in retail, used to be one woman who obviously spent hours in the sun and over the 12 years I worked at that store and saw her, her skin got more wrinkled and saggy and discolored and it was pretty awful looking. She looked older too. But it seems that maybe the tanning products are better as I don't really notice any orange skinned people-- and there were plenty back in the early days of faux tanning

I live in Arizona and it seems only newcomers tan. We natives know better. Only people who work outside have tans. I like being pasty white. I used to work with a girl from Chicago and she would spend hours tanning. The last time I saw her was maybe 10 years ago and I couldn’t believe how old she looked. She was about 40 and she looked 55-60.

I get a very light tan just by accident.  When I see people with dark tans I wonder what they're thinking.  I don't even think it's attractive anymore.

I live at a beach year round (here and at home).  The beach is/was packed all summer long with very, very tan people.  At night you see sunburned people walking on the boardwalk and around town.

We moved to the beach when I was a teen and I did get tan, but didn't lay out (tort-TURE!!).

I started totally protecting myself from the sun in my late 30's.  I don't have tan lines--at all, from the sun.  I wear a self tanner that I love.  So I am tanned all over.  But I'm the lightest tan on the beach.

It really kills me to see young children with with tans.  Not good.

@Meowingkitty: I was going to say the same thing as I’m also in Arizona. Seems like older newcomers are the ones I see with that leathery skin. I think they start getting so used to that tan that they don’t feel right without it but wind up overdoing it.

I'm not pasty white due to my Mexican heritage but still slather the sunscreen and wear my wide brim hat, sunglasses and my long sleeve spf shirt when I work in the yard. Although I do neglect my legs since I wear shorts. Just had to get a lighter shade of foundation....go figure.

People are realizing the damage sun can do to skin.  Even just being in your car can cause damage to the side of your face that the sun reaches.

I don’t “ sun “ but have had a few things removed from ear to under eye from being a passenger !

It was amazing how long it took to get an appt. with a dermatologist.  More amazing was the number of folks who were waiting for their appt. to start or to wait for the next MOHS slicing.

Hopefully, youngsters will get the message earlier than older folks like myself did.

I live in Colorado, at about 7,000 feet above sea level, where the air is thin and the sun is fierce. We get about 20% more UV radiation than at sea level. I stay out of the sun as much as possible but I do use self-tanners during the summer on my legs.
