I;d like to get a birthday present for my next door neighbor girl who takes care of my dog when i'm gone. She will be 14 and is starting to get interested in makeup. Would a young teen like a Laura Geller face kit and some brushes? Her mother doesn't fix up and I had boys so we don't have a clue! Maybe a gift certificate would be better?

The girls around here (around that age) love Sephora. If you have one near you I would just get a gift certificate. They don't even go for the make up but the "clean" skincare.

💳 I'd go with the gift card. Makeup products are something most people prefer to select themselves.
As an alternative, you might consider something from Philosophy to make her feel special and pampered.

If you want to get makeup for her from Laura Geller, get Balance and Brighten. That's what three of my granddaughters starting using when they were about 13-14. The gift certificate for Sephora could also be a good idea, but if she has no guidance from her mom then Laura Geller may be better. She can use the Sephora gift card online if there isn't a store nearby. I don't know if Geller has a kit that includes B&Brighten, but a small kit would probably best if she has no idea what to use; she could play with the different things and decide what she likes. You are very nice to give her something like this for her birthday. The LG website does have a lot of kits.

I would go with the gift card. As much as I like some of LG products I think there are other lines that are more geared to a younger crowd.

IMO, teen girls don't want Laura Geller. She may like Too Faced, but the less expensive brands like ELF, Rimmel, Colourpop, or NYX are more popular with that age group. Maybe you could invite her to lunch and the two of you shop together, if mom gives the OK.

Laura Geller is 73. No offense, but not relatable to a teen.
I rarely watch the make up presentations, but I can't recall any vendors attempting to influence teens. The QVC featured brands are too pricey for a teenage budget. I doubt teenagers even watch QVC. That generation follows YouTube influencers.

Is her mother okay with her wearing make-up? I'd check before I'd buy her anything.
With a gift certificate, she could buy whatever her mother thinks is appropriate for a young girl her age... perhaps some skin care, lip balm or light fragrance.

Just like to point out that Laura Geller is 65, not 73.

Personally, I find Laura Geller makeup to be a heavier coverage (not a "daytime" makeup)
