Sorry, I haven't read the article yet. However, I have been doing my own "experiment" this summer. A particular product broke my neck, backs of hands and arms out so badly two days ago, that I asked DH to bring a jar of Nivea home. It IS heavy and sticky in consistency, IMO, but it has been very soothing. I think I have reached at least one conclusion... with a heavy cream, use only a tiny bit. But FIRST, the skin needs MOISTURE. If the skin starts out dry and flaky, the cream has nothing to "hold it in." I am guessing that more expensive creams like La Mer are formulated to combine moisture and "sealing" properties into one step.

Good to know, Baylie! I don't feel the urge to spend $$ when I KNOW the same ingredients can be found in a less expensive cream. I have been comparing face creams this summer (mostly eye creams) so I am going to look into the Nivea. Thanks again!

I remember reading that the dupe had to be the European (Specifically German, maybe?), Nivea. It can be ordered via specialty websites. Apparently, there is a difference between EU and US Nivea.

The supposed LM 'dupe' has to be a Germany manufactured Nivea, not Mexico. Mexico is where 99.9% of all Nivea in US is manufactured. Smallflowers is a catalog that sells the German Nivea. There have been comparisons done and the Nivea, while soothing, is not the same as the LM in the comparisons that have been done in UK.

I also have very dry skin and about 6 weeks ago I started using Josie Maran Argan Oil...the pure oil in the bottle. Nothing else. Morning and night. And I have to tell you, my skin looks amazing---it really surprised me with its effectiveness. I a 55, if this helps you.

If you go to skinactivesdotcom, there is a kit that basically lets you make your own Cream De La Mer. You can make about 6oz. worth for about $30 plus shipping. The kit you need the is the one for beginners, you will see that it has the algae in it. It's not hard to make, they give you a mixing jar and you put everything you need in the jar and stir it up with a spatula.

It has 10 Reviews on MakeUp Alley and it rated 4.5 out of 5 stars. Another alternative you can consider.

I bought my Nivea Cream from Amazon and it says Hamburg on the tin- no mention of Mexico.

I wondered about this... I will check mine...it's from CVS! (probably not the German one!)
