OK, I decided to try the new L'Oreal Root Rescue Root Coloring Kit in shade 5 (medium brown). It's supposed to color roots in 10 minutes. It comes with a cylinder bottle that contains .91 fl oz (27 ml) of developer creme bleach and a separate bottle of .61 oz (18ml) of gel colorant. You dump the gel colorant into the bottle of bleach, put the cap on and shake it up. Then you take the lid off and put the comb attachment on. You squeeze the bottle to get the hair color on to your roots and the comb attachment is supposed to help you spread the mixture. The outside of the box also does not display how much product is in the box.

L'Oreal needs to go back to the drawing board with this one. The stuff came out in globs which landed on the sink and on my face. I replaced the cheap clear plastic gloves with my own non latex disposable ones. When I was about 2/3 of the way done coloring my hair I ended up taking the attachment off and pouring the color onto my gloved finger in order to spread the color on evenly. Because the cylinder tube is tall and narrow, it's slippery and won't stand up without it easily falling over so there is a perforated circle that you detach on the cardboard box in order to set the cylinder down while you are parting your hair.

L'Oreal's Belle Color line of hair color sold in Canada used to have a root touch-up kit (discontinued more than a year ago) similar to Clairol's root touch up kit which I think is an easier product to use.

I think you would get better results by mixing this product in a professional bowl and using a root touch-up comb to apply this to your roots rather than use the cylinder bottle and comb applicator. The cylinder bottle with the comb applicator was messy and a gimmick. I did leave the stuff on my roots for 15 minutes after I was done applying it. I think it's left my roots too red. I don't think I will buy this kit again.
