No SPF

Manuela only puts her SPF in a stand alone product, she contains the spf in beads so that it sits on top of the skin and is not absorbed into the skin at all it just protects. SPF's cause so many problems for some of us.

actually her stand alone sunscreen is a mix of chemical and physical sunscreen (SPF) so yes, one part is absorbed into the skin, the Octyl Methoxycinnamate. It is a chemical sunscreen and absorbs pretty quickly into the skin. The physical sunscreen, the zinc oxide, sits atop the skin. Both these ingredients are in a typical sunscreen and could have been added to the BB cream.

Watched the presentations over and over .. Manuela says they encases the spf in glass beads it never absorbs to the skin. That being said you could be 100% correct, so I do not want to detract from what you are saying. You can also email Isomers so you can be sure of what it does and does not do. It is the one SPF that is wearable for me but don't wear SPF every day it is not necessary.

No SPF is a plus for me. I prefer to use a product that is meant to supply SPF alone and nothing else. I use their BB and like it a lot, too.

This is an excerpt from a 2001 article on the Merck glass bead technology that encapsulates the chemical sunscreen:

A highly effective new technology that packages sunscreens in invisible tiny glass beads is the latest from Merck KGaA. Marketed as Eusolex UV-Pearls[TM], the product can be formulated with any cosmetic cream base. Klaus Bischoff, Head of Merck's Cosmetic Business, says, "The little glass spheres are only one-hundredth of the width of a human hair in diameter, extremely stable, and form a protective film on the skin." Their key benefit is that the UV filter is encased in the microspheres, which means it provides optimum protection without penetrating the skin. As a result, even sensitive or allergy-prone skin can be protected without side effects.

That's pretty amazing but it's freaking me out that it is glass beads. I mean, glass, as in glass that you and I think of? Even at that diameter how would it not cause even microscopic scratches on your screen when wiped off?

yeah, makes you wonder.

I still go back to the fact that she includes a chemical spf which only works if absorbed into the skin, plus the fact that her directions say to apply 15 minutes before sun exposure, which would imply you need to wait for something in there to penetrate the skin before you get in the sun in order for it to be effective.

But certainly everyone can believe what they want to believe. Matters not to me. Smile

I am passing though as I don't like chemical sunscreens nor glass spheres in my skincare.
