Is there really a powder makeup that works for mature skin?

I'm wondering.  Is there really a powder makeup that works for mature skin?  One that has good coverage, not heavy, and does not accentiate fine lines?

I was thinking about trying balance and brighten for one, but just now sure.  Also, IT?

I am asking for recommendations for those of you who use powder makeup instead of cream or liquid, that have mature skin issues.

I currently use a mineral powder from Physician's Formua with concealer as needed.  I really don't think it is giving me the look I am hoping for or is the most flattering.

I should mention that I cannot tolerate products with fragrance.

I thank you for your suggestions!!!

Great question - as this is always a tricky one for skin with wrinkles. Whatever one chooses, I think one thing that’s important to do is to avoid using too much product. Less of a good pigmented product is almost always better. I’ve tried many powder foundations (I’m 56) and my personal favorites are Lancôme Dual Finish (a longtime favorite) and urban decay’s (sorry: don’t remember the crazy name). Yes, I sometimes even lightly use the original bare minerals. I have NEVER been able to make IT powder foundations NOT make my wrinkles look worse—although many women swear by it. I guess you really have to go to an Ulta or Sephora store and simply try things out (and look at how it looks in sunlight, too, not just inside a dark Sephora store.

@AngelPuppy1 I just reread your post and I should add that you probably would not like Lancôme dual finish because of the fragrance. I don’t think urban decay has any fragrance. If u fine the perfect powder foundation, please let us all know!😃

I know it takes a negative beating on here from some but I'm well into being a senior and I use IT original Celebration Foundation in the black compact applying it with my IT brush and have no issues with it exaggerating any lines or wrinkles. I use a 10x times magnifying mirror so think I'd know for sure if it did. Maybe the secret is using a good moisturizer first. I go back and forth between First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream and Olay Regenerist micro sculpting cream. The Olay is on the expensive side so when it's empty will probably just use the other one.

I agree with Pur, I actually mix it with IT Celebration Foundation, the original, not the illumination one. Pur is better at coverage I think. The mix, for me anyway, is a perfect color match.

I do rotate through a couple of liquid foundations as well.

IMO, it's skincare first, makeup second.  My go to powder is Laura Geller Baked Elements.  Her Balance-n-Brighten was bad for me - very muddy looking.  IT Celebration Foundation wasn't good either.  Most of the time I use the Baked Elements over a moist foundation as a setting powder but I've also used it alone from time to time.  Another one I like is Josie Maran's Matchmaker powder but I think it's been discontinued.  I believe the key to using powdered foundation alone is that one's skin has to be in very good condition first and the application of the powder has to be light and well buffed out.  Otherwise, dry/powdered foundation will always settle into wrinkles and pores.

Re: Is there really a powder makeup that works for mature skin?

It obviously depends upon the condition of the mature skin, but for mine, there's definitely not a powder that's flattering.  Although some of the products I've learned to use recently have minimized the huge pores I inherited from my mother, they are still there.  In addition, my years of yo-yo dieting along with my many years of just living have created skin that is less than elastic.

Apparently for my age, my skin is still quite decent, but I'm careful.  I've discarded everything powder with the exception of two Laura Geller blushes in great colors for me.  I tossed all the minerals, all the Geller balance and brighten, all the IT powder -  everything I tried pretty much.

My daily routine is fairly simple -  cleanse followed by either an AM serum or a PM treatment followed up with a good moisturizer that my skin likes.  Make-up is very limited -  brows, blush, and lipstick.  Nothing powdery anywhere near my super sensitive eyes or those pores mentioned above.

I am also a PUR makeup user.  For me using a good quality brush to apply a powder foundation makes a big difference. I recently bought the Michael Todd Sonicblend brush and that's what made me realize just how much this reigns true. Between that brush and using a primer (mixed with your moisturizer if you'd like), my powder foundation has never looked better.Woman Happy

No there is not at least what I have tried like, bareminerals, wander, laura geller, and It.   It always sinks in wrinkles and pores even with primer.  I wish I could find a primer that really works.

I am 63, have very dry skin  but very nice skin too---luck of the gene pool---I use BE mineral foundation, L Geller B-and-B, and Paulas choicw too. Not all at once or course. For me, it's all about how moisturized your skin is before you use this type of foundation. I use my Mia 1x at night so I know my skin is clean then I use all sorts of skincare every night and day---I don't pile on the powder either but use just a little and buff it in. Looks very natural and not drying at all. I use crem concealers and blush too. I try to avoid the lines with the powder but buff over them lightly. A good brush is a must---I LOVE IT brushes.
