Contrary to popular belief, retinol is NOT an exfoliater.

Yes, you are correct but I've given up trying to get people to understand that, lol. Smiley Happy

Retinoids minimize the appearance of wrinkles, bolster skin's thickness and elasticity, slow the breakdown of collagen (which helps keep skin firm), and lighten brown spots caused by sun exposure.

Retinoids work by prompting surface skin cells to turn over and die rapidly, making way for new cell growth underneath. They hamper the breakdown of collagen and thicken the deeper layer of skin where wrinkles get their start.

It's not true that retinoids thin the skin. They typically cause peeling and redness in the first few weeks of use -- but they actually thicken the skin.

For brown spots that give the skin an uneven tone, retinoids slough them off and curb the production of melanin, a darker pigment.

Peels, like AHA's(glycolic acid) , BHA's (salicylic acid), fruit or vitamin C peels and manual scrub exfoliations, remove the top layer of dead skin cells that normally do not shed off as easily, once we get older!

If you peel using a retinoid or retin A, you need to slow down as that is not a good side effect...I exfoliate with both chemical and manual exfoliation (not the same day) and I am using a retinoid (PTR for now) but may move up to retin A at some point! HTH's

Indont tolerate Retinol very well, even when I build up my frequency of use over time. But peels I find to be a better fit for me.

@Rachb Myself as well...highly intolerant to retinoids...aha,  bha, and mixed peels fine, just not all the time like 3 times a week mild ones, as my skin gets more sunspots using aha's and all.. even with heavy duty mineral SPF! they show up :/  That 1/2 Irish comesthrough BIG time lol.

PTR's is safe for my skin but like water almost? I feel nothing - making me wonder if it's effective - it's 1.5% I think but any other 1.5%  I can FEEL it or it burns in areas and see dry peeling etc.

So I guess psychologically knowing I'm using PTR's Fusion PM w/no reaction in my regime makes me feel good lol.

No probs with his 'stuff'
