We all know by now that QVC rips us off on shipping. They deliberately charge too much so they can take a profit out of the S+H charges, which, IMO, is something that practically no other store does. But is it possible they are doing the same thing with sales tax?
A remote-selling store, such as an online store, only has to charge sales tax if they have a physical presence--such as a store or a warehouse--in the state where the customer is from. Now, I have never heard a single QVC shopper say that they aren't charged sales tax by QVC. This implies that QVC literally has a warehouse or office in every state.
That can't be true, because if QVC had a warehouse in every state, shipping would be a heck of a lot faster. Notice that most online stores will charge you high shipping fees or sales tax, not both. Now, QVC could have an office in every state, but do you really believe that? Amazon.com, a much bigger company, does not have in office in every state, or even most states.
Is there anyone who doesn't get charged sales tax on QVC purchases? If the answer is no, I'm going to seriously wonder if the supposed "sales tax" on some people is actually going into QVC's pockets.
