My big toes are prone to getting ingrown toenails and I have a hard time dealing with these myself. I don't want to get a full-on pedicure just for this purpose but I don't know of anywhere I could go to have the toenails cut properly. Is there a service that exists out there for getting this done safely and professionally? Thanks

Go to a podiatrist and have it done properly.

Ask for their recommendations for routine foot and nail care.

I've not been able to trim my own toenails for a while now and recenty discovered that just a plain foot Dr in the building where my regular dr is does it and it's $45. But if you have Medicare (plus another factor which I forget since it doesn't apply to me) it's free every 10 weeks. Have 2 ingrown nails that she takes care of very well. She uses tree oil to soften them before trimming.

I had to have one large toe nail removed, a hammertoe made it unbearabley painful.  That was no picnic, but, the problem is gone now.  Got it done ages ago.

My DH had ingrown toenails on both great toes.  The podiatrist treated his toes by permanently making the nails a tad more narrower.  This was done years ago and he has had no more problems since.

@Texasmouse  Go to a podiatrist  He/she can remove the borders of your nail to permanently correct your problem.  Your nail will look a little different though, being more narrow.  Someone stomped on one of our kids' foot years ago and caused the nail to be ingrown from there on out.  It was always painful when it got too long.  Once the podiatrist removed the borders (done right in his office exam room), that's was the end of it.

@Texasmouse

I just started a thread about a new show on A&E, ‘The Toe Bro.”

https://community.qvc.com/t5/TV-and-Movies/The-Toe-Bro-A-amp-E/m-p/5303002#M327328

On his YouTube channel, he shows a lot of ingrown nail treatments.

Might be hard to watch, but it ends this painful problem

with little heal time. HTH🌼💛

Re: Ingrown toenails

My naturopath gave me this trick:

After trimming your nail and filing straight across - not too short of course -

Rub the whole nail with Vick's Vaporub then take a 3 to 4 inch piece of Glide dental floss (it has to be glide or a similar generic) and work it under the nail. Wrap it around the toe and hold it in place with a bandaid with the padding over the prone area. Cleanse and repeat every day until you are "out of the woods."

Just something to try before resorting to surgery. I do this and haven't had to have an ingrown nail removed in years.

You can buy these double-sided ingrown nail files. Smooth on one side and file on the other. Very thin that can go between the skin and nail.
