Illustra Beauty Styling Brush-- Mine just arrived!! Anyone else have one?? I have a QUESTION ++++

I finally caved and purchased this otem after watching it for a while. Qvc had it at a special price. I got the bright pink one....actually, I would call it fuchsia. It's pretty! I can't wait to try it, but I have a question.

Q:

The directions state that you should use this on CLEAN hair. ?

But, can you have styling products in your hair? Suppose I shampoo, use a LEAVE IN conditioner (ie, WEN), and use styling products (volumizer, or styling gel, or hairspray, or arhan oil, etc). After I blow dry my hair, can I still use the Styling Brush the next day.as a touch up??

I never just shampoo and dry. Huh? Lol Even with a rinse out conditioner, I use stufffffff in my hair. Lol

Thanks for any tips!

Re: Illustra Beauty Styling Brush-- Mine just arrived!! Anyone else have one?? I have a QUESTION +++

@Wannabeincali Since you did not get any replies, I looked at the video on the Q & there is a reason why they suggest using it on just cleaned dry hair. It a straigtening brush so I would think certain product or a hairspray could be flamable with that brush & would damage your hair, even tho you blow dryed it with the products first.  Look at the QVC page ( not the video) where there are questions & answers from those who use it. Maybe, there is an answer for you there. You can always use a spray root lifting product after using that brush on your hair. HTH!  P,S Hopefully one of the ladies here uses it so you can get a more informed reply

@Kabella

Thanks for replying! It seemed as though lots of people reviewed thos produvt, but I guess none of them post on tjos forum. Lol

Sounds as though this may be headed back to qvc. There is no way I can not at least have a thermal styling protectant product in my hair before using this brush. I may call the manufacturer directly, as well as look a through the FAQ on the product page here as you suggest.

Thanks again! Smiley Happy

@WannabeincaliYour WelcomeSmiley Happy I can't see why you can not use s styling protector on your hair then blow dry. I use a alcohol & oil free spray one "Living Proof Prime...You need to protect your hair from the heat of a flat iron or any type of straightening brush IMO.

P.S I had to go look at it...to be exact, its called "Living Proof Prime Time Extender" its formulated for fine hair. My hair is fine textured but I have alot of it. If your hair texture is coarse then I would google an alcohol free hair protection spray or cream HTH.

@Wannabeincali, I'm pretty sure that most, if not all, styling tools say they are supposed to be used on clean, dry hair. From curling irons to flat irons to these type of brushes to hot rollers.  I wouldn't pay attention to it.

@Lipstickdiva I agree, the hair must be protected from any kind of heating tool. I just think when they say clean hair, it means freshly wash hair without buildup of product.

I think you are correct but I use my heat tools on second day hair all the time and I've never had an issue.

I used to work in a salon as a receptionist and when people would call to get an updo for an event, the one thing I always was told to relay to them was absolutely not to wash their hair before they came in because it would be too soft to work with.  Second day hair with product build-up is easier to work with.  And the stylists always used a heat tool of some sort on just about every up-do.

Even when they are doing a style after a cut, they often spray the hair with hairspray and then use the heat tool in order to get the curl to hold.  I really just don't think it's a big deal.  Woman Happy

Of course, what do I know.  I just had to have my hair cut because I got one of those round styling brushes that also dry the hair so tangled, we couldn't get it out.  We broke the brush trying to get my hair untangled and ended up cutting it out.  Saturday night I was going to one of those walk-in places so they could fix the cut.

Now I hate my hair so much I could cry everytime I'm fixing it. Woman Sad

@Lipstickdiva Yeah, they prefer 2nd day hair when doing an updo or when they color & use heated tools. But that is not done on a daily basis.... People that often use heating tools such as a flat or curling iron on a general basic with 2nd day build up products such as Hairspray etc. will tend to try out & fry hair. Sorry, about what happened to you with that round brush. It will growSmiley Happy

@Lipstickdiva. @Kabella

UPDATE!

Whoa!!!!  I just tried it on my 2nd day hair that has product in it, and this brush is a HUGE YAY!!!!!! My bob is salon-poofed up! Lol More on why that matters to me, later. Lol

About my question earlier.....

I use blowdryers and flat irons all the time on my 2nd day hair with all its styling product on it. Smiley Happy  And I do always pre spritz with heat protectant spray or gel. I should have phrased my question better! I just wanted to know if I could do that with this specific brush styler....because 1) the directions stated it was for clean hair use. But mainly because 2)

I was worried that product might build up on the bristles and maybe warp or melt them. The bristles are NOT flexible; they are like little stiff heated columns. I think it may be hard to clean them off completely. I will try with a damp towel and cuticle stick. I know my flat iron starts to smoke if it has even a tiny amount of buildup. I will have to use ONLY gel heat protectants with this brush, as it says the hair must be DRY befo8re use. Yup, I can spray with heat protectant, then blowdry, and then use the brush, but I wanted to eliminate the blowdryer step. Smiley Happy

Edited:

I am posting a few pics, in case anyone is interested in getting this product from qvc. You get the brush styler, 3 hairclips, and a cute storage case.

.......

Back to my bob!

Ok, I am soooo excited about this brush after just ONE use. I am growing out my bob, into a lob....it is in that meh inbetween stage. I have med text hair, but a lot of it, and it is naturally wavy. It is the type of hair stylists tell you NOT to cut into an angled bob. Lol I spend a ton of time getting it to lay sleek, but I do not mind. The only part that kills me is trying to POOF it up, esp at the roots. It is great on day 1, but flat on day 2. I have been using Calista Tools creme texturizer (AMAZING STUFF!!!), but this brush did just as well! YAY!!! It even POOFED up my bump (for anyone who doesn't know, that is the part at the back of your crown that most of us with short hair styles usually either have to cut really short in that area or tease to get that poofy bump).

Heat Setting & Bleached Blonde Hair:

I have double processed blonde hair (base lifted, plus highlights). I was scared I'd get breakage, so I started on the low 320 F setting. That was perfect! It straightened and smoothed easily!

CONS:

No cons to speak of yet! But, I do have a WARNING:

I did get a tiny bit of breakage at first --- only 3 strands. I think it was because the bristles are stiff.....no flex at all. Add to that, my hair is bleached. I added a bit of silicone serum after I saw the broken hairs on the heated brush styler, and NO more breakage when I re tried it, thanks to the slip. I will have to find a silicone gel heat protectant, so that my hair will glide through the brush easier.

IF anyone reading this has wavy or curly, thick hair, and, struggles to get LIFT and sleekness in their angulated bob.....RUN AND GET THIS BRUSH! Smiley Happy

......I just noticed this is made in china. Ugh. I hope it lasts! It does seem to be made well...at least, it is much heavier than it looks! It is about the weight of a drugstore type blowdryer, but not as heavy as my professional Elchim. And it heated up quickly! That was a plus.

Thanks again to all who responded to my questions!

Lipstickdiva!

OUCH! I know how that type of tangle feels! I had that happen once with a spikey curling iron.

 Tip:

If you have another tangle like that, use a liberal application of SILICONE serum on your hair. You will be able to easily slip out sections at a time. Coconut oil also works, but silicome serum works best and fastest.
