IT Cosmetics: 2 Brush Cleaners

[ Edited ]

I was looking at the new IT items on the Q's website and saw a brush cleaner, "Brush Love Skin-Loving Brush Cleaner." I bought IT's brush cleaner from Ulta, "Brush Bath Purifying Instant Brush Cleaner," pretty much the first day it was available back in April. I was so excited, but unimpressed with the results. The name and packaging are different for both, so I wanted to know if they really were 2 different products. I checked the ingredients on both--they are different. The brush cleaner on the Q has more ingredients. I wonder if it works any better than Ulta's. Has anyone used both versions?

Also, as an FYI, IT is having free shipping on their website today through the 5th. No code needed.

Re: IT Cosmetics: 2 Brush Cleaners

I use iT Cosmetics and, like them very much. I do wish both the foundation in the tube (with the 50 spf) and the mascara in the skinny silver tubes were waterproof though. Sometimes I use the Bye Bye Undereye, which is waterproof and by the time I cover under my eyes, a few broken capillaries~I don't really don't need much foundation. But I would like it waterproof. We have very humid summers and I get frequent hot flashes...so for me I would love it. Especially for special occasions.
The ingredients in the brush cleaners surprises me a bit. There are a lot of natural things, like all the botanicals. But there were others I didn't recognise. That's one product I would not buy! Too many additives.
With that said, I can only tell you what I use. First off after every use or, even between shades if using the same brush I whisp it around in a clean napkin, tissue, etc. it gets off the excess. Then when I wash them...first I use a bit of witch hazel to cut through any oils. Then I use a mild facial wash or shampoo too clean them thoroughly. As they dry if I notice one that's showing signs of wear or, just every other cleaning....I'll put in a few drops of baby oil or, of the new facial oils.
I've seen brush cleaners at many price points. But, I truly don't see the need if what I'm already using on my body will clean them thouroughly.
I'm an RN and among several different types of nursing I worked as a surgical nurse in a dermatologist office. He was very pragmatic and recommended to patients not to use over priced cosmetics or skin care. He carried a small line of no frill products that all worked great.
IT is reasonably priced compared to some of the dept. stores. My sister recently bought a bottle of Estée Lauders "night recovery complex", it was $95.00!!! I told her to return it and we spent an afternoon online, here, on Sephoras, Ulta, etc. we found her a great new line that she loves at less than half the price!

I agree @Gemspirit; too many "foreign" ingredients in the Q's version. It surprised me, too, when I first saw the essential oils and extracts. I was happy to see that!

I've used so many things to clean my brushes (all IT brushes!), but what works best for me is Dr. Bronner's castile soap (the liquid kind). I use the tea tree, since is naturally antibacterial, and disinfecting makeup brushes is a must. I would prefer a solid cleanser, though; it's more convenient for travel and there's less waste. Beautyblender's solid cleanser worked well for me, but it was only an ounce, so it didn't last long.

The Tightline mascara, which is in the silver tube, does come in waterproof. QVC sells a duo for $29: A254775. Ulta also sells it individually for $24. A waterproof version of their CC cream would be much appreciated, I'm sure! I bet that's already in the works. I'm sure many people share your opinion on that!

I also agree that simpler is better; I've recently taken that approach with skin care and makeup, and I'm enjoying it. IT really is a good brand, in my opinion. I'm glad you helped your sister find something she loves, and at a decent price, too! I no longer use IT products, but I always encourage others to if they're curious. They're definitely worth a shot!

Big waste of money when you can use the blue Dawn liquid dish soap and the fabulous Brush Egg!!  Best invention ever.

I was just going to say something similar.  I don't buy a special brush cleanser either.  A liittle hand soap from the counter or a little shampoo does the trick for me.  I'll have to look up this egg and see what it is.

Hi there JeanLouise:  The brush egg is a little egg shaped silicon egg that you put two fingers in and you run your brushes over it with the soap.  It cleans your brushes in seconds thoroughly.  You can purchase it on Amazon.  Just type in The Brush Egg and it will come right up.  It's so good I ordered another egg to make sure I always have one on hand.  It cuts your time more then half in the cleaning process.  Fabulous product!!

Ahh, OK, thanks.  In theory, like a mini scrub board from days gone by.  Maybe I need one.  What's one more gadget, right?  LOL

Re: IT Cosmetics: 2 Brush Cleaners

I've not heard of The Brush Egg, either. Now I'm curious! I'll have to look it up. Thanks for the info!

I don't know why IT needs two brush cleaners. Why not just bring the Ulta version to the Q? I wonder if Brush Love will eventually replace Brush Bath at Ulta. Time will tell, I guess! At any rate, I won't be buying it.

Re: IT Cosmetics: 2 Brush Cleaners

You know what does a GREAT job cleaning brushes? You're not going to believe it...Bio Cleaner! Yes, the one in the tub with the white clay cleaner from France. Cleans 'em in two shakes. Not a trace of makeup left. Best and quickest thing I've ever used for that purpose.
