I would start by changing to a gentle cleanser, no hot or very warm water while cleansing ( and that means while in the shower as well) and do not use microfiber cloths on your face. If your house is a dry environment then consider using a humidifier. It's usually during the winter months when we have dry skin issues. We like to cleanse with hotter water and our homes are drier b/c of the furnace.

Thank you @SilleeMee for your information in this forum. Rarely do I get a chance to thank you but just wanted to tell you that in my book, you are the resident expert and I have learned a lot from you.

Off topic.....My son is taking berberine and has been able to avoid taking Glucophage for elevated blood sugars....thanks to your posts last year describing it.Heart

@Imaoldhippie   It sounds to me (since I cannot see you) that you've damaged the outer layer of your skin. I'd stop everything you're using and just rinse your face w/ warm water in the morning, if you wear makeup, use a gentle, creamy cleanser to remove it at night.

Pat dry with a clean towel...changing it every day if possible. Towels sit wet and can get bacteria. Sometimes we are too rough w/ our skin without realizing it. Any rubbing, exfoliating or using anything that strips the skin can be harmful in this dry, winter weather especially.

It's also possible that you became sensitive to some products you were using. After a few weeks, begin adding back one skin care product at a time and notice if your skin is reacting to each one.

@SilleeMee   I also recommend not using microfiber cloths. Think about how the ones for hair are used to pull water from your hair quickly. The same for skin.

Off Topic too..... @Trinity11 and @SilleeMee, would one of you be so kind in sharing a link to that post last year (or add the info here) regarding Berberine? I'd like to read what was shared too. Both I and my S.O. take Glucophage/Metformin, so Trinity's mention above got me intrigued since I never heard of it before. Thanks in advance! 😊

@Mesmerized169

Please do a search on the forums for berberine. There are several threads regarding the supplement. But in a nutshell berberine acts, and is similar in chemical structure, like metformin. The added benefit of taking berberine is that it also has LDL-lowering capabilities.

Thread to read here:

Here's a rather technical NIH publication which might help shed some light on it:

I apologize to the OP for going off topic.

Good advice @SilleeMee . May I just add that if you take blood thinners like clopidogrel or aspirin, my cardiologist said it is contra-indicated. However, both my endocrinologist and cardiologist told me they have seen great results from Berberine in people with diabetes and/or high cholesterol.

@Trinity11 @SilleeMee @Mesmerized169@Shanus @shy bobcat ............Thank you all so much for your suggestions.  I appreciate them all.  I am going to start with a mild exfoliate as I have not used one in years.  Since I already have Vasoline on hand I will try that too.  I will be shopping for a mild facial cleanser.  I have my yearly check up at the doc's in March and if it does not look any better I will have my doc refer me to a dermatologist.

Again, thank you all!
