I'm having issues with my Poreless Face Defender - help.

I bought Mally's Poreless Face Defender from her trymallybeauty website 6 months ago. The square compact with the big sponge (which I love). I've been using the product more since it's been hot and I really liked it.

A few days ago I got my OTO kit that I was waitlisted for.

Different compact/different sponge and I'm having issues. When I apply it to my skin it balls up and actually shows my pores (I guess it sinks in?). I barely knew I had pores before! I just don't have pore issues normally. So I have to wipe off the balled up areas.

I'm still tap tap tapping the little sponge like I did with the big sponge. I was looking forward to the circle compact with the little sponge because it's purse friendly. Has anyone had this issue before with the balling up? I'm going to wash my little sponge and start over I think, maybe trying to use less product. That's the only thing I can think of. If anyone has helpful advice, please share.
