Because of more news about the "tanning mom" that I just saw, I have got to state my opinion. I'm light complected. Years ago I wanted a tan, but no matter how hard I tried I always burned first! When I hit my 40th year, I decided that I no longer wanted ANY sun on my face, and I really didn't care if I looked tan any longer. I have a good friend I taught with. She has the most beautiful skin, she's a redhead, and she stays out of the sun.

Years later, my fair husband came down with melanoma -just a small scratch on his arm. He thought he got it from yard work, but it wasn't healing. They were able to remove everything and he's fine, even though he gets checked every 6 months and has to be careful in the sun. (He grew up on a farm and never worried about sunscreen either.)

I always kept my children out of the sun. And we're beach lovers - all of us! When my daughter was a toddler, we would take a small inflatable pool down to the water, fill it with salt water and sand crabs, and put her under the umbrella. Now they have a lot more sophisticated umbrellas.

Senior prom - she begged us to let her get a tan at a salon. Of course, we said she would look beautiful without it - and she did. She was the ONLY one of her friends who was not "brown" for the occasion. She is "Nicole Kidman" fair with beautiful green eyes.

I hope people look at this "tanning mom" and see what she is doing. I, too, think she has a psychological problem. She would be really pretty without the tan and with her hair fixed and a little bit of makeup on. I hope she gets help. And I hope this brings the dangers of tanning to the forefront.
