@vermint

Oh I think it made her day alright!  I'm glad you listened to your gut and turned around to spread some sunshine Smiley Happy

@Shanus

Maybe we can all make a pact to spread more kindness into our corner of the world.  If you'd rather not touch someone (to me it's an added gesture of kindness), that's ok.

@wagirl

It was definitely her clothing that made me look twice because it's colors I would wear.  I actually went online to see if I could find the shirt lol.  Yep, I'm going to double or triple up on my compliments since I'm not out as often.

they may be jealous of you for some reason.

That was the case with my friend.  She didn't like herself or her husband and was jealous of everyone else.

What's wrong with tapping one's shoulder @Lucky Dog ?

@San Antonio Gal  - I try to be aware of a person's sensory boundaries.  Some people don't like being touched or tapped  - a tap is a touch - by a stranger.  Personally, I do not like being tapped on the arm or shoulder by a stranger.   The stranger is getting a bit too close if they feel they can tap or touch me.

@JudyL  @monicakm  -  A tap would not bother me.  I know everyone is different.  Now if someone got in my personal space, I would not like that one bit.

This is a great thread, it made my day just reading it.

I too love to give compliments and even smiles, especially to strangers.  Positive reinforcement is a very powerful motivator and someone might remember what you said for a long time.  It makes me glad to spread good feelings.

I don't know if it's because I'm an introvert or a New Englander or both, but I don't like anyone touching me.  I make a joke out of it, spread out my arms and say 'this is how much space I need.'  I would have jumped about a foot and screamed (I scream when startled) if someone I didn't know had tapped me.  I'm sure I'm in the minority on that.

Thank you all for posting your stories.

Not by someone I do not know.

I think it depends on the words that come with the tap .... if it's a kindly Excuse Me ..... or a Hey You .... to get someone's attention.

Sometimes a compliment can go sideways.

I still recall being out shopping and had just gone through a revolving door with 3 women in their early 20s.

One stopped in front of me and said "OMG, what a gorgeous jacket!  My GRANDMOTHER would love it".

Uh, okay.  Thanks ... I think.   LOL  Woman LOL

I definitely would not appreciate a stranger touching me.
