I think getting high lights every 5 weeks is over the top! My goodness, they last much longer. 3-6 months. Your colorist is making a killing off of you.
Cut every 5 weeks? Does your hair really need cut this often?
Tint on the roots to cover grey, yes, every 5 weeks is reasonable.

I definitely need the tint. I actually use root touchup 3 wks in. I appreciate the encouragement. I wear my hair short and it gets flat on top, grows fast. I couldn't wait 10 wks, and don't have the time to go 2 times. I watch grandchildren. I am going to do the highlights every other time. That will save some cash, or better save some.

I get my hair colored every 6 weeks (basically just my roots..they are gray)...and every other time, every 12 weeks, he may run the color through the whole head. At that time I get very subtle highlights and low lights. My hair is long, so at the 12 week mark I might get a 1/2" trim. My highlights and low lights easily last 3 months. The problem is my bangs...they get trimmed every 6 weeks so I lose the highlights there faster.
I am totally gray, so my roots are very obvious at 3 weeks after I get my hair professionally done. So, I have been doing my own roots with Root Rescue, at 3 weeks, and it is fabulous. It washes out right at the time of my hair appt.! ![]()

Yes, it's very time consuming and expensive. My cut: $110 +20% tip. Then I get a tint & Baylayage, 1/2 head: $225 =20% tip. This coloring is a double process and takes ~ 3 hours. One hour for the tint, and rest to paint on the Baylayage, let it process and shampoo.

I need my hair cut every 4 weeks. I try to go 2 months for color and highlights. If we don't have a trip planned, I only get my roots done. It still looks good but I like it with the highlights. It does save money.

I cut and color every 6wks. I alternate between Hi and Low lights each time. I love the dimension that alternating hi and Low lights provide.

I don't. It is too expensive for as fast as my hair grows. I couldn't get mine cut every 3 weeks like some. I'm going it out, so I haven't done anything but a trim since June when it was cut to my ears. Now it is just past my shoulder edges. I color at home and have, then got it hi and lo lighted in my younger years when I felt it was worth it. My dollar sense has changed since then.
