ETA: not to be gross or anything, but how the heck does she wipe herself when she goes to the bathroom?
VERY carefully.

I hope so Feline, because she could end up in big trouble if she isn't.

There are many professions that require nails of short length. The health industry and correction/LE require short nails due to being able to handle the equipment, same with the military. The nails do trap more dirt and germs the longer they are. You would have to scrub/scrape them every 10 or so minutes to keep them clean. They can also scratch people, which many day cares require short nails for the safety of the babies and children. Their skin is sensitive and can be easily scratched and torn for infections to enter, plus diaper changes can cause mess to get under the nail and without careful scrubbing, still be there when you fed the baby. Just some points to think on.

Not really. Most of the germs that cause problems are around the cuticles, and at the nail bed. Longer nails can actually prevent stuff from getting kind of glued down there.

Not under the nail. When you cook or garden or do anything where your hands are in something, the mess gets under your nails and has to be scrapped/scrubbed out to be clean. Yeah, the soap gets to it, but I find it difficult to believe that it is now clean dirt. I don't wear gloves to garden and this is always the case. The same with baking and cooking, junk under my nails drives me crazy. Maybe because I'm OCD about it, I'm more aware of the junk. Even with short nails, junk get under them. I have nail brushes by all the sinks and out in my garden kit.

This brings out my gag reflex.

For playing classical guitar, my left hand nails are a shorter than the tips, and the right hand is just past the tips to pluck the strings with nail, which is a pretty, ringing sound. Fingers on strings make more muffled sound. ![]()

I feel sad that someone sees this as a big accomplishment.
