I purchased my first one and I'm not sure how to actually do it. Nothing comes with directions anymore. Youtube is all over the place with some saying you pump and others saying just hold it out for 10-30 seconds.
I am trying a couple different ways and it does work somewhat but probably not like it should and I know it's operator error.
What do you guys do if I may ask what your best method is? I have a regular manual one. I know I have seen a few posts about heated? I don't have that type.

@Laura14 - I recently returned to using an eyelash curler, standard design but specifically the one by Shu Uemura which has had a cult following for years. If the lashes are short, it's likely only one squeeze at the base is all that can be done. For those with longer lashes, they can squeeze at the base but then again as they move the curler out from the base halfway to the tip. I squeeze and hold. IMO, pumping could possibly damage lashes or maybe pinch. Also, never curl lashes that have mascara on them as they will stick and break or pull out. While some of it contains name dropping of their products, there's some helpful pointers in this article. I do carefully warm up my curler with my blow dryer even though the article recommends not to. 🫣

Hi @Laura14 I've used eyelash curlers since high school...same way...I would be using the same brand (Maybelline) if I could still find them or they were made as good as then, but anyway, currently have a Revlon, manual that works fine.
I basically, before applying my mascara, hold it, then I, gently, pump several times...sometimes I then hold it again.
I have no big system to doing it. I just pump and also, as Mally once showed....I occasionally will move up and down the lashes maybe once or twice...meaning, I curl at the base, then midway, then the ends...that works nicely too. But most days I'm just quick about it and just pump, pump, hold, pump, pump, pump and done.
Btw...just fyi for anyone who considers getting a heated one....I don't do this often, and be careful if you do, (just as you'd have to be careful if you had a heated eyelash curler)...you can get the same effect by aiming your blow dryer at your (assuming its) metal curler, let it cool a second, then use it...same effect.
I hope that helps! You'll get the knack...it's not that complicated.

I never pump. I just hold it for a few seconds, probably should hold it longer.
However, I always take a tissue and wipe off any residual mascara that is on the curler each time I use it, as there can be a trace amount of mascara still on the lashes, and the curler can pull out some lashes. Works perfectly.

I have been looking for the old fashioned Mabeyline or cover girl curler or refills in the original rubber pads . I can't use those silicone ones . I've tried and tried and for some reason they don't work for me and are scary. I'm always afraid it will pinch my lid . The OG fits my lid better I guess. I've checked Amazon and can't find rubber only silicon.

Omg I have an old Maybelline. I decided it was probably tijme for a new one and hated whatever they had changed. Maybe it was just the weight but I was glad I kept the old one. I'm a terrible creature of habit.I think I tried a Revlon or Covergirl too and just no. You'd think it wouldn't make much difference but it did to me.

Thank you guys! I have not come across curling several times up the lash so I will try that too and the trick to warm it up with a blow dryer. I finaly have something to use my dryer for. LOL
I appreciate the advice so much!

@Laura14 - I use the Shu Umera (sp?) eyelash curler as I heard it was good for those of us with hooded lids. Have not had any issues with it. What I do is the pump and hold as others have explained. It works well for me. I don't try moving up my lashes; not sure I really have enough lashes to do that to anyway. HAHA

I just hold it for a second or two. Actually, they scare the wits out of me. Silly, I know..................![]()

@Laura14 - I use one I bought at Blue Mercury. I had never heard of the brand (it was a man's name), but they recommended it, and I love it! I've tried a lot of popular brands.
My lashes are short and straight. I use the curler, holding and counting to 50 slowly on each side. Followed by mascara, it works well for me! ![]()
