Re: How do you react to this?

I'm of the opinion that if the situation bothered you to the degree that you are seeking the opinions of strangers (us on this board) then you've answered the question ... do not go back to that salon.  Undoubetedly, there must be another salon in your area which can give you quality service and work at a similar price without making you feel uncomfortable.

It wouldn't bother me if they did a good job.  Money talks, so if it's still bothering you next time go elsewhere.

Re: How do you react to this?

You can possibly report the business to the attorney general's office in your state for the porn.  That is gross and disgusting.  I could care less that they speak to me.  If you don't like the place, you don't return.  I would only take issue with the porn.

Re: How do you react to this?

I'm from the deep south Bible belt, so some of those men's magazines like GQ and Mami are porn to some of our people.

Just find a new salon.  Porn isn't against the law any more.  I would call them and tell them why I was not returning for service.  If they know this is the reason you left, they may change at least the old guy.  I always talk with my tech so they will engage in English if you talk with them like asking where they are from and things like that.  One of my techs really explained why her family tells her that she is too dark and should stay out of the sun to be fairer like I am.  We always have great talks about culture and people in the south and a bit of our personal lives like at the hair salon.  I like to learn about people, so talking is natural to me.

I do not think that it is rude for a salon full of Asian nail techs to speak their own language. It would not bother me in the least.

As for the porn, I would have probably ignored it and laughed about that night with my husband. If this was truly "porn," and he was either an employee or owner, it's very unprofessional but NOT ILLEGAL.

If I thought i had received a good mani/ped, I would return without any hesitation.

That isn't what she said.....she didn't say she was upset because they were speaking their own language. She said she was upset because they were speaking their own language to the exclusion of English and yes, it is very rude - especially in a customer service situation like that.

Re: How do you react to this?

OMG - someone could be there with a child who would go in to use the bathroom and as they walk out  (as I did after I washed my hands in the bathroom because the handwashing sink was being used)  they would see exactly what is on his computer. NO WAY I was going to just let that go by. I'm no prude, nudity doesn't bother me after 42 years of nursing, but someone performing s*x acts is another story altogether. This was hardcore porn. How would you feel if you let your teenage daughter go there for a mani /pedi and she came home to tell you she saw that?

Gee, I could have sworn the OP quite clearly said, "hopefully that place will be out of business soon" right after letting us know she posted on the Chamber of Commerce site.

Well, gee, do you actually think one bad review is going to close a business down?

I've got news; practically every business gets reviewed nowadays especially those in customer service.

Maybe they should improve their service and they won't have to worry about it.

I would explain to my daughter that the man shouldn't have been looking at such things in a place of business. If I were as upset as you seem to be, I would have said something at the time or called later to complain.

I would not make a federal case of it, and I would not try to destroy the business because of it.

Any may I remind you, yet again, that when you ask a question in your subject line, as you do so often, you should expect a variety of answers.
