Any recommendations for a really good set of hot rollers? I have very thick straight hair. My cut is medium length, just above my collar bone, and slightly layered. I don't shampoo every day, so looking for something to give me volume and loose curls when used on dry hair.

Depending on how I want my hair styled, I either use a round brush and blowdryer, the Calista Tools Perfecter, or Calista Tools Hot Rollers. Our haircuts are the same, but yours sounds thicker than mine. I just got mine cut a week ago. Friday I used my hot rollers for the first time since the haircut. I only had to put six rollers in. I took big sections and overdirected. It came out really cute. If I just want the ends turned under, I use the round brush and dryer on wet/damp hair or the Perfecter on dry hair.

I am a broken record, but I have recommended these to oh-so-many people here...the Jilbere Hot Roller set by Conair's Professional Tools, the Porcelain Series...found at Sally's...got a new set last month (happy surprise for me---on sale!) for $26.00---they are normally $39. LOVE them. My daughter uses them, too---in fact, she bought me my first set a couple Christmases ago.

They are flocked and come with clamps and clips. So many of my friends have bought them now, too!

I bought them too when recommended and they do work. I have very long hair and bought the bigger set with the three sizes.

On the nights I wash my hair I put pin curls with bobby pins in my hair with it barely damp and the next morning it comes out full and wavy.

I haven't used this, but there's something called the Easy Styler by a man named Nick Chavez. It's a 3-in-1 styling tool. It's a round hot brush (meant to replace hot rollers), a flat iron and a curling iron. If you like, perhaps that could be used in place of the hot rollers.

The Calista ones work really well for volume as well as curl.

I got these when they were a TSV. My hair is above shoulders, but I got the long ones, which works really nicely for layered hair, which mine is slightly.

The only thing I do not like about them...(2 things) is that they are heavy - compared to the Caruso steam rollers, which weigh next to nothing - and that they are hard to clip in where they don't "fall down" a bit.

But, man, do they do the job! I only need about 5 minutes, and I'm set for the day and then some. I'm glad I didn't send them back!

But my all-time favorite is still the Caruso.

Thanks for your suggestions! I'll check into all of these. My problem is that I'm so untalented when it comes to styling my hair; I need something very easy.

I recently bought the Calista hot rollers and really like them. I bought them from Amazon, though, where the same rollers are just a little over $25. I got the short. I just put them in my hair and take them out immediately and have lots of curl and volume.

NickNack -- Several reviews of the Calista set say they are very heavy rollers because they are ionic with the heating element inside the rollers rather than in the base unit. The weight causes the rollers to fall out of your hair. Do you find them to be heavy? Do they stay in place with the clamps for the required 20 minutes?

CJC, I don't find them heavy at all. The clamps stay in place for me. I don't leave them in for 20 minutes though, because I don't want my hair to be really curly. I don't think they'd fall out if I left them in longer though. I'm surprised at the reviews that say they're heavy.
