Re: Help with giving up sweets!

VIRGOSUN - I, like you, gave up all sugar (along with wheat and dairy) and lost 30 pounds and have tons of energy - I am turning 61 the end of the month. I went to a nutritionist-- do not have celiac, but do buy a lot of gluten free products and organic products--I don't know if you live in the New York area, but recently found the best bread--- 100 times better than what you get in the stores. When I went to see the nutritionist I first did a 21 day cleanse, not your typical cleanse, but cleansing with food, i.e., changing what you eat entirely and giving up the wheat, sugar and dairy and have maintained it for over a year now. I am so sorry I did not do this sooner.

Now I read labels. A great milk is called Califa - gluten free, dairy/lactose free and sugar free - toasted almond coconut - expensive, but worth it--love it for smoothies that I make every day. Good for calcium.

Re: Help with giving up sweets!

I love sugar free items like pudding, ice cream and chocolate. Russell Stover's is really good you may want to try to find something along those lines to help with the sweet tooth. It is hard giving up sugar just like coffee and nicotine.

I did not need to loose weight but last year 10 days before Christmas I gave up all sweets and desserts to go into the holidays guilt free with so many big meals to eat for several days. I was shocked how much my jeans started drooping after only 10 days of no sugar/sweets. But it was so hard I literally and physically hurt the first few days but then it passed.

Re: Help with giving up sweets!

WOW! I wish I could loose weight like that when I gave up sugar. I also subbed with fruits, but now I can't have fructose due to not being able to digest it unless it is mixed with glucose/sucrose. I went cold turkey, so I did it during my summer break from teaching and instructed my family not to call me for 3 weeks or until I called them. I was fine since I was alone, but the headaches were a constant. I also quite caffeine at the same time, so it was a doozy of a few weeks. When I added back one soda a day, I got horrible headaches and couldn't stand the sweetness. I drink black coffee now and can only have a few cups otherwise I get a smashing headache. I also never did much candies, so soda and sugar in processed foods were it for me. I gave them up and now can't stand soda or sugary cakes or treats. I've never been an icing girl, so that wasn't a problem.

Good luck on your quest!
