I'm going to get my first gel manicure as I'm tired of manicures chipping and not lasting. Is there anything I need to know that the nail tech should or should not be doing? Is Opi a good brand for gel polish? THANKS

OPI is a good brand.

If you have the option of CND (Creative Nail Design) Shellac, I would recommend it. Wears very well & removal is easy, it soaks right off, without any damage to your nails.

Hi, again, @ellaphant . Yes, they do have a website, and you'll find lots of videos on YouTube. The Salon Life posts great videos swatching colors, and doing manicures. I took her advice & had a manicure done using Bouquet, which is beautiful on it's own, or with French tips.

I had Shellac nails for years while I was working and loved them. Didn't chip or peel. The cost was more than a regular manicure but that didn't bother me.

Now I wear no polish and my nails are healthy.

Re: Help with Gel Manicure info

I always did my own nails. I, too, am going in next Monday for my very first professional manicure! I am so excited. The last straw was I did my nails for Thanksgiving. I was preparing dinner that morning when I glanced down at my nails and my thumbnail polish was completely gone!! Where on earth did it go and what food that I prepared was it in? That was it! At 68 I'm getting my first manicure! I'm getting a shellac and hoping it lasts more than a few hours, which was my norm! Woman Happy

Re: Help with Gel Manicure info

I certainly miss my gel manicures.  I have been doing my own more or less since Covid, and I can do a decent job though it took some practice.   Just cannot justify spending the money anymore now that I am retired.   I do keep them looking nice though, I despise unkept nails, just a pet peeve of mine.
