I have tried several different eye liners and mascara and they seem to make my eye's water. It never use to be a problem, but in the last 5 years or so my eyes will begin to water after an hour or so of applying eye liner or mascara. I've tried Mally, Laura Geller. SOMETIMES I can wear Nuetrogena but after a week or so I have the same problem.
TIA.

Can you wear eyeshadow? If so, maybe you can use a darker eyeshadow and create the effect of eyeliner. As for the mascara, unfortunately a lot of this is trial and error.

My eyes act up pretty easily too and it's impossible to know exactly which ingredients cause it. I think loose shadows and glitter near the eyes, usually mica, can be a problem. Certain dyes are also more allergenic, especially purples and reds. Fibers in mascara are also a no. I would do the elimination process and try each product by itself for a day, even if it means an incomplete eye make-up look. Also, can't hurt to pick up a bottle of OTC anti-allergy eye-drops. Not if you wear contacts though. Worst-case, see an ophthalmologist, maybe there is an issue like dry eye that you aren't aware of that is contributing.

Yep---I even got the allergy drops from doc. Also got Restasis. These help, as do Tears N Naturale Free, but some makeup just doesn't agree. I can use Bobbi Brown cream shadow without difficulty---but must use Clinique or Mally's eye base...I can use Bare Minerals stuff without a problem...can't really use any lavendar or pink/rose colors---except for one Almay that was discontinued. I feel your pain! Some of it has to do with aging, and I believe it also has to do with straining our eyes. Cold weather makes mine worse, too.

Try using loose mineral eye powder for liner or Almay. They are gentle, but if you can't find something, just go without until your allergy issue subsides.

tigriss, I think it would depend upon what the person might be sensitive to and the ingredients in a particular mineral eye powder, some of which seem to be culprits that can cause irritation.

I get the allergy eyes too. I've had good luck with Trish McEvoy tube mascara. I think tube mascaras seem to hold up better in general.

I also have allergy eyes, but have finally found the Greatest Eye Liner & Mascara in TARTE!!!
For some reason they don't bother my eyes & believe me I've tried every product under the sun...I just stopped wearing make-up all together until I discovered these (2) items.
I also use either "the original Bare Minerals" eye shadow & mix with a little water on the lid, or Tarte eye shadow sticks (got them from QVC) or Skinn shadow sticks.
Everything else leaves my eye puffy, red & very itchy...it can take days for them to settle down if I use any other products.
Hope that helps & good-luck.![]()
