@timeless I feel ya! I have hair that needs that oomph to hold a curl. The T3 iron is a miss for me. The curls never last.... after the initial brush out. It just doesn't get hot enough. I use a Hot Tools iron which locks that curl in. For product, I use Paul Mitchell "Hot Off THe Press" heat protectant. It also holds that curl. I let the curls cool for a good while before styling. Also, one length there is just not gonna usually hold a curl. The hair is too heavy for the curl to last. I went for long layers for the added volume. That's my recommendation. I've used hot rollers....they're okay, but the curls never wasn't as long lasting.

@timeless My hair is curly/wavy and I think it's normal if you have any wave at all for it to have a mixed pattern. Please no perm. It damages hair so badly.
The only suggestion I can give you is YouTube videos on wavy hair. They will tell you to stop the hot tools and products w/ silicones. You clarify your hair w/ a clarifying shampoo and then deep condition. While hair's still very wet, apply a curl cream (if hair is thicker) or just conditioner in shower if on the finer side. Then a gel for hold...enough that hair gets a "cast" (a productive hard layer to protect againt frizz and hold any curl). Use a dryer w/ a diffuser and then when it gets 100% dry you "scrunch out the crunch". It's a modified curly girl method because you don't have to use a conditioner to wash with and you don't have to wait all week to wash again.
I did this method after using irons and hot rollers and my waves were gone. The stylist told me about this method and it took awhile (a few months) for my waves and even curls more than before to form a pattern and look good. I've done this for many years....no hot rollers, irons, etc. No silicones to stop the frizz since the the gel does that. I use Luv Ur Curls products online. There are videos that explain every step for wavy hair, curly and coily. There are different products for each.

@timeless - are you using any kind of styling products? If you aren't, it's no wonder you style doesn't last. You need a good mousse and maybe a root lifter before you blow dry and use the curling iron. After you curl, leave the hair alone while it cools before you take a brush to it. Don't over manipulate your hair or create a lot of tension as you brush through it. Finish with a little hairspray.
I use a round bristle brush and my blow dryer most of the time, after those styling products. Sometimes I'll go in with my Calista Tools heated brush in a few places. When I really want more lift, I'll use my Calista hot rollers and leave them in until they're completely cooled. That lift will last me a couple of days.
