Re: Happy July, Scents and Common Sense Thread

Makeup, Musing's review was the first place I looked. She always has great reviews. I did pick up a NYX compact. Don't love it either but it was really cheap so I can toss it in my bag and not worry. Emilynoel raved about it - I wouldn't, but it's okay.

I like the tread-mill idea. You can still run without getting heat-stroke or worrying about who's getting ahead of you. Glad I didn't scare you off last time.

Your folk's magnolia tree must smell wonderful!

Glad you had a great vacation. They advertise on TV. Never been there or anywhere close but it seems like a nice place for a vacation. Did you bring both doggies?

Re: Happy July, Scents and Common Sense Thread

No, the doggies were boarded. We stayed on Macinaw Island and the hotel wasn't pet friendly. You need to go! That's what got us interested in it as the commercials and friends talking about how nice it was. The water is so clear you can see the bottom. The lake is huge! I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn't on the east coast. It was like driving near the ocean! There were even white caps and waves one day! The island doesn't allow cars or buses. You walk, ride a bike, or took a horse drawn carriage. It was so pretty. They have a ton of lilac trees! Smelled great, well until we were downwind from a horse, lol. Also went to sturgeon Bay .Wisconsin. I want to go back to both places. Gracie got sick three days before I came back. We adjusted of her medication, but it wasn't enough. The guy called me to let me know what was going on and I called the vet ER to make arrangements for payment. The next day the guy said she was better. When I got home, I took her to the ER and she stayed overnight. Her sodium and potassium were out of whack and they gave her fluids. Next day, she was back to her old self!! Yippie! I don't blame the boarding place, she just got sick. I think the stress of driving to Michigan would have stressed her out as well. This was the first time I went on vacation since she was diagnosed with Addison's. If I go on a long vacation again, I will get a house sitter. The magnolia tree does smell nice, but it's a bulky tree. Hard to mow around and drops leaves a lot. Going to bed. Happy tomorrow is Friday!

Re: Happy July, Scents and Common Sense Thread

Makeup, sounds relaxing and wonderful! We've had dogs get sick boarded too. The first time, it WAS their fault. The dog was perfect when we left he - they didn't feed her. She went from a good weight of 45 lbs to 25! They never tried to reach anyone either. TG we weren't gone longer. I hated the health care for humans and dogs in that area of the state. Didn't know any better, this was before the internet. Glad yours is all better now. ITA, the car trips are not fun for the dogs. I think a house-sitter is a great idea.

We have lilacs around here. Not at our house, but had them growing up, love the scent.

There are a few islands here that require a ferry and I'm not sure if I'd get seasick but it's a strong possibility. You can take your car across, but it costs 450.00 to take it!

Sleep well, talk tomorrow.

Re: Happy July, Scents and Common Sense Thread

Makeup, good for you, running isn't for me but I do like to walk.

Desi, the reason I thought this powder was, Mally said it is moisturizing and can be applied wet or dry with either a sponge or a brush so, is what had me interested.

Agree with a house/pet sitter since some people will take their sick pets to be boarded the same way people take sick kids to day care and nursery school. One teacher told me a lady brought her little girl in with measles, can you imagine that. She called the nurse who called the mother and said this was against the law but people do it.

Doglover, how is DH?

I don't remember the Mally presentation but there is probably a video.

Here you need proof of immunizations for nursery school. I guess people pull anything when they want to drop their kids off for the day, totally not right to do. I get having your back to the wall if your kid is sick and you can't take time off. There used to be sick day-care where you could put them when they got sick and they had a nurse, and just pay by the day, but don't know if that still exists (I never used it).

Re: Happy July, Scents and Common Sense Thread

Desi, the same, have an appointment Tuesday with the doctor and will go from there.

I saw a presentation and the video they have online for it, says it is moisturizing and can be used either wet or dry. The one where you get 2 for $65 gets very good reviews and both say moisturizing. The only reason I am even thinking about this is, it is so quick to apply a powder foundation but just plain powder doesn't work for me. I can't wear LG Balance and Brighten or any BE powder/mineral foundations but since they say wet or dry I thought this may be different than any ordinary powder or powder foundation?

They never had that around here, were suppose to stay home from work if you had a sick child or make other arrangements such as a baby sitter at the house but some sent them to day care or nursery anyway, know one that did that but that spreads it through the rest of the kids, not very considerate of others to do that.

Re: Happy July, Scents and Common Sense Thread

Doglover, hope DH is okay til Tuesday, that's a long wait when he is in such pain.

I guess you could try the Mally. I have no idea about that at all since I've never tried anything of hers foundation or powder-wise.

I don't have to worry about sick little kids at this point. Kind of glad.

Doglover I just watched the video of that Mally duo. Sounds like what you are looking for if you want a powder. It's mostly talc and a silicone, so it might be good for your skin.

Re: Happy July, Scents and Common Sense Thread

Desi, thanks, is what I thought watching the video too so have to think about it now but does sound interesting to me and more of a value for 2.

yes, is a long time and the nurse made me promise to take him to the ER if he got worse or had a problem but of course he says no way so will play it by ear till Tuesday, just glad they can see him then. His doctor isn't on on Monday or he could have seen him Monday.
