Does anyone know how to locate a good stylist in your area? I'm not happy with the way my stylist cuts my hair, I usually have long layers put in my hair, but she cuts them too short and they don't lay nice until a month later when they grow more. Looking to find a good stylist in my area, Philadelphia suburbs. Don't know if there's websites with reviews or sites . recommending stylists. Thanks for any input.

Ask friends, co-workers and family members whose hair cuts you admire. You can check reviews and rates on Angie's List, too.

A happy customer and word of mouth is the best advertisement. Ask around...if you're dropping kids off at school, seeing other moms at a sporting event, ask them. See if your community has a FB page. Post a question there.

I think business people have to pay a fee to be Angie's List members, don't they? There are likely a lot of independents out there who are not on Angie's List. Ask around. People who have no vested interest will tell you straight.

I think you should ask people that you know who have hair that you like. I also check Yelp and I will even try to make my appt in person if possible to try to gauge the vibe of the salon. A lot of salons have websites now that should showcase their work.

No matter what you do I think it also depends on the relationship that your form with your individual stylist - sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs to find a prince.

Good luck - I have to do this too soon.

about 2 weeks ago I saw this woman walking into Walgreens with a really nice short haircut. I wanted to go in the store and ask her (I was in the parking lot leaving) where she had her haircut. Sorry I did not go in and ask her. If you are really desperate, go to the mall and look for women with really nice haircuts and then just go up and say, "excuse me, can you tell me who cut your hair?" My stylist is okay but I am not completely happy and haircuts don't come cheap. Good luck == I hope you find a good stylist.

Thanks everyone! I thought of Angie's List too, not sure how that works..I'll ask around if I see anyone with a nice haircut. Smiley Happy I'll ask the moms at my kids school too.

You can go into a salon and ask for a free consultation. That way you can meet the stylist and see if you are compatible. That's how I met mine and she's amazing. I walked into an Aveda salon at the mall... she was available to consult and she knew exactly what I wanted and was so sweet. I've been going to her now for 10 years and have followed her to other salons over the years.

Good idea, I didn't know you could do that.

Can I ask-what is considered expensive for a salon haircut and style today? I was paying 45.00 plus tip. Wasn't sure what is expensive or cheap for when I find one. Thanks!!

I get my hair cut and blow dried for $52. I tip my gal about $8.00-10.00 because she never raises my price after all these years even if the salon she is at is higher.

I have chin length hair with bangs.
