I really don't have a price limit when it comes to my hair. Since I've always worn it in a pixie with it spikey on top. I remember wearing my hair this short way back in the early 80's and would get so many compliments on it. Now everybody has a pixie. I have a gal in our little town that is the owner and stylist. Just her in her shop. $85 for my cut, color and highlight every 6 weeks. $20 tip. I think the price I pay is VERY fair.

I do have a limit!! I've had the same stylist for many years and she charges $25. She's the only person who has ever been able to deal with my curly hair.

I live in a residential area on the east side of Manhattan.  Yes - I'm in walking distance to just about everything I need.

There are 5 shops within walking distance.

I can't even imagine that.  Do you literally live downtown amidst commerce?  The only thing I live within walking distance from  is my mailbox.  And with a broken knee, I usually drive to it or let my husband get the mail.

Oh, I forgot, that's my granddaughter in my avatar.  Until just recently, I had a photo of the two of us as my avatar

Your last avatar was you and your granddaughter?  Oh my goodness, never would have guessed that.  You must have had your daughter/son at a very young age.  The skincare is working!

Thank you so much Smiley Happy  You ladies are my "escape".  Several months of hobbling on a bad knee, it started affecting my lower back.  Now, my back pain has surpassed my knee pain.  If Covid doesn't postpone my surgery again, my back might.  I'm sure my Dr will have an answer to this problem.  I can't be the only person with a broke knee that develops a debilitating back pain from walking awkward.

I am sure it is the strain of walking "weird" that is throwing off your back, thus causing the pain.  Your good attitude is good medicine.  I will say a prayer for you. ~

@SilleeMeeThat's exactly my situation.  I never would have had the courage to cut it myself except for COVID but now that I have, I'm so happy about it.  First I just kept up my pixie, then I decided to go for a short bob with bangs.  My hair is baby fine and straight, and this is absolutely care-free.  I can finally just "blow & go." And I'm saving $60 every time I cut it.  Win, win.

ETA No coloring needed.  I come from one of those weird families that don't get a head of gray hair. At 72 I'm still mostly light brown.

Me, too! I have zero grays so no need to color it and just like you I have saved a ton of money by not having to spend it at the salon...enough saved to buy myself something special every now and then.Woman Happy

I have to have my hair cut every 6 weeks.  During COVID last year when the beauty shops were closed, I think I went about 10 weeks without a cut.  I did not like going past the 6 weeks.  For me I just don't feel good about myself when my hair does not look good.

I live in Illinois.  I go to the beauty shop in town and pay $45 for the shampoo and cut and I give a $10 tip.      Yes, of course I wish it cost less, but the owners of the beauty shops have to pay rent, utilities, employee salaries, insurance, etc., so you have to remember they have LOTS of expenses they have to pay too.  And after that they hope to have a little money left for themselfs.
